The handle is of flat woven nylon so it is comfortable in the hand. Small portable bowl comes with carrier. Two bowls would be adequate...one for food and one for water for pet. There is a top zipper opening that is very helpful. Sturdy mesh ventilation on both ends and one side and top. The solid side has a pocket large enough for accessory items. I have owned several soft side pet carriers. I am impressed with this one for the price. I recommend it for pets 15 pounds and under.
