Enchanted Glass

Just what i expected.
I loved this book, the characters are likable, as always. And the plot has the DWJ trademark. In my opinion if you liked the Chrestomanci series or "The house of many ways", you'll love this one too.I've read many books by Diana. Nearly half of them. So, i'd say i'm pretty familiar with her work. And I was really surprised when i read some of the reviews that rated this book the lowest! If you're doubting about buying this book because of those reviews, personally i think they're just making a storm in a glass of water.

A great read by a favourite author
I love the feeling of comfort that Diana Wynne Jones conjures up. There is such a sense of beauty, rightness and gratification in her writing. It's also very visual, and a fun read if you're feeling low.

An Enchanting Story
Diana Wynne Jones is a pro at writing believable, strong characters and inventing colourful worlds. Enchanted Glass combines humour, tragedy, mystery and magic in a charming way. The plot centers around a young runaway named Aidan, who teaches his middle-aged rescuer Andrew how to see the world of a magician through a child's eyes, a world that Andrew has forgotten since he was a boy. A whole host of other quirky characters provide funny and thoughtful moments. I think this book is a great read, for children and adults alike. For me, it didn't quite reach the perfection of the Chrestomanci series, Howl's Moving Castle or The House of Many Ways, but I would definitely reread this story, as it was great fun. I gave this four stars because I felt the ending was a little abrupt. I'd have liked it to be a bit longer.

Diana Wynne Jones does it again
This has all the elements of a Diana Wynne Jones classic: excellent writing, engaging characters, humor, evil, etc. It's a familiar, but always different, mix of people who have abilities (magic) that they don't recognize. How they come into their own and save the day is a delight to read.

Such a great author!
I recently discovered Diana Wynne Jones and I can't believe I wasted so many years oblivious to her books! I liked this one, the humor is great and the story throws lots of interesting twists. No predictable plots for this author, although she uses familiar plot devices, which makes her a genius to my way of thinking.

Not Terribly Enchanted
I wanted to enjoy this book as I enjoyed the Howl series, but I was not able to identify with the characters. Granted, this is intended for children (and I'm an old guy), but I think I'd have 'felt' the same. I just wouldn't have been able to express it.Books like "Narnia", or "Harry Potter" set a high standard for young fantasy, and this was just average.

Diana Wynne Jones rocks!!
For those of you not familiar, Ms. Jones was writing well before Harry Potter and not just in one world. Her imagination is endless! This is a stand alone story so it is a good place to start. I highly, highly recommend her work.

Not her best, but still very good
Although not the best of the author's work, this is still a very good read. The author has created some very likeable characters, set them in a charming village, and wrapped them in a great story. I couldn't put it down, and wanted to buy a ticket to go visit that lovely little village the story is set in. My only complaint is that the ending seemed rushed and kind of incomplete. If she had rewritten the last chapter it would have been a gem of a book, but instead, it's only just "very good".

Magical and charming
Simpler book but imaginative. You fall for the characters and feel like they are old friends.

Looks like a half baked story
Many gaps in the story. Enchanted glass could have been made more enchanting. More clarity could have helped about what counterparts do. Looks like a half baked story. Although am a fan of Diana Jones. This book disappointed me.

Bom

appealing
and easily accessible, For older children, without losing its appeal to adults. A basically simple, well-used plotline but far from simplistic.
