Get Ready For Base!
With this speaker rated at 2000 watts, my main concern was that I would need a high power amp to drive it. I know that the 2000 watts is the peak power handling capability, but something that high is usually power hungry. When the speaker came I was surprised to find how heavy it was (in addition to being downright huge). I used a computer program to design a vented enclosure. Once I finished the front of the enclosure, I mounted and tried the speaker. Even without the rest of the enclosure the base was incredible. Once I finished the rest of the enclosure and mounted everything I gave it a test drive. This enclosure is quite large at almost 5' high by 3' wide and 2' deep. The base was overwhelming. My Onkyo has auto frequency adjust. It had me manually attenuate the subwoofer volume from 96 db to 75 db. This put the subwoofer volume at under 25%. It further automatically attenuated it another 2 db. This was all done with a subwoofer amp pulled from an old Radio Shack subwoofer and was rated at only 100 watts! With all frequencies in line, the subwoofer is not overbearing but offers those strong low frequencies with ease, that just cannot be reproduced with smaller speakers. By the way, my front speakers are vintage Electro Voice using two SP15 woofers in each side. These four 15" woofers will jump start your heart on their own, but the 21" Pyle takes it a notch lower.

Great performance
Love the low frequencies this thing pushes out. Now I want to buy another one. The custom box proved to be extremely difficult to build and weighs in at we'll over 100 pounds. Great value!

Mine lasted 7 weeks
on a a clean 1200 watts , eventually it just has suspension failure and bottomed out. 9.5 cubic foot box tuned to 25hz...

This is a great product. I loaded these into large, long throw horns and boy they really get with the program. Worth every penny. Thanks for getting people a shot at going big on a budget.

This Pyle 21" is not for the timid
These are monster-sized heavy speakers and unfortunately the flimsy shipping box is hardly strong enough to handle the load. I recommend you check your item as soon as possible for hidden damage. As large as this item is, I consider this item to be delicate. Delicate because I believe that Pyle has cut corners to provide this sized raw frame at such a low price. This includes the spider, the coil and the surround. The T/S data shows this item to be well suited for a vented box at 5.5 cubic feet with an 8 inch duct. Because of the surround and spider issues I would not use this item for a front loaded horn. Because of the size of this item I would not build a long throat rear horn. A 1/2 wave rear folded horn would be room size.I've seen plans on the internet for a short rear horn like a scoop or single inner baffle but IMHO this length will not produce the rear loading on the cone needed to provide rear compression. Scoops may look fun but for all that work to build one this size it will not perform any better than a poorly vented box. I've chosen a computer aided /modifed 1/4 wave transmission line that provides the rear cone compression in the main baffle chamber plus the expansion through the guided maze. Speaker baffle is 3/4 plywood fully braced for flex. The inner baffles are 5/8" ply and supported with both continuous glued cleats and 3/8" threaded rod with nutted fender washers front to back. I use 12gauge speaker wire inside the box from the plug panel to the terminals. Weighing 200 pounds each these cabinets become very heavy boxes with rope handles that two people can barely drag around. I use a Crown xls802 per each speaker in bridged mono. I consider these true "subs". They do not reproduce sound and I do not ask them to. The speaker only gets the bass drum signal using a Sennheiser e602 mic from the group out of the mixer. It is a stand alone system: Bass drum+mic+preamp(mixer out)+eq to squash anything over 80hz+ dbx compressor to attenuate the sound to just one thump+ Crown amp(s)+ Pyle 21's. I rate these a 4 because I do believe they are delicate and I have to baby them. If they were better construction like a JBL at 4x the price I'd still baby them but I would not worry about the surround coming off.

noisy but decent for the price
i purchased this speaker awhile to add some lows to my sound system and let me say it put out, the only downside is that it makes alot of excess noise when turned up to loud volumes, but if your okay with having some noise and your on a budget then this is the speaker for you.

6/5 Proper Cabinet = Floor Shaking.
After constructing a cabinet from solid oak that was 30' (Width) and 38' (Height) so it has dual 6 inch holes for bass, I painted the box black, added corner guards, and added a beefy Dayton power plate. Then, after hooking up everything properly, screws, etc. I plugged it into my basic stage gear and gave the panel about a ~4w signal.. and.. the floor began shaking. I had to make a few minor adjustments, but these subwoofers, literally shake the floor with their proper homes. Some, might use these for the 20hz-2khz as a PA type speaker, but that being said, I don't think it's worth it. Mainly because these drivers hit the low notes, so good and make such a strong impact.(Power plate used for the construction was a 1000w(RMS) Dayton Power Plate.) Wiring was 10 Gauge.Highly recommended for the person who can do a proper DIY subwoofer box.

Tanta roba!
