Review: Favorite watch of all time - I freaking love this thing. Its comfortable, look good, and is rugged enough what I need it for. The backlight looks really clean when activated, I adore the shade of blue they used. It has alarms up the wazoo, stopwatch, and 1 alt timezone preset (everything you come to expect of Casio). But, this thing has a thermometer and compass which sets it above the rest. Even if you aren't an outdoorsman, I find knowing your directions quite beneficial for daily life. At least it gives you more understanding of positioning and navigation. I lost this watch once and was so distraught I searched for months until my girlfriend purchased me another. I still search to this day for the original...
Review: Perfect non-smartwatch for the adventurer - After having numerous smart watches, it is a welcome relief to have a watch that you don't have to pair with a phone, recharge a battery every few days and one that doesn't bug you with a bunch of notifications. Casio is a legendary brand in the watch world and this one does not disappoint. It has the best looking face that I have ever seen in a watch (and I have had some very expensive ones over the years). The detail around the rim is exquisite- the compass rose, the coloring - perfect blend of purple, black and orange highlights... even down to the font on the crisply printed letters. The LCD portion of the watch is actually not that big but is still plenty large enough to read (I have progressive glasses and still have difficulty reading the smaller print in most watches - not this one!). I was initially skeptical of the negative (inverted) LCD face. It looks really cool but I find most are dim and difficult to read. This one is very crisp and clear, even in lower light levels. The band fits the watch's design and form perfectly and is comfortable to wear. I type a lot at work yet this band does not bother my wrist at all. It does tend to grab some hair on my wrist when I initially try to put it on (minor annoyance) but once its locked in place it is fine. Features: The compass is the most interesting part of the watch for me. It works really well but is not always active. You have to press a button to activate it (this is to conserve battery). After some calibration, it has matched up perfectly with my old Brunton compass. Impressive feature is that you can even set the magnetic declination. The second part to the "dual sensor" is the thermometer. It works as it should and is pretty accurate, with one caveat. To get a true air temperature reading you need to take the watch off and let it sit somewhere for 20-30 minutes prior to reading the temperature. This is to eliminate your body heat. If you were to read the temperature while wearing it, it will read several degrees higher - this is to be expected and is the reason you don't normally see this feature in a watch. The temperature reading is activated at the same time as the compass, so it is not always on. For me, this is most useful at night while camping. The rest of the "normal" watch functions are exactly as you would expect. World time, alarm, stop watch, etc. Nothing special here except for the fact that all of the settings are very intuative and easy to use. The backlight gives off plenty of light to see in total darkness, however it only stays on 2 seconds with each button press. I would have preferred at least 3, but this is very minor. All in all this is my new favorite watch. It is very comfortable to wear and looks amazing. I love hiking and enjoying the outdoors and I feel like this is the perfect watch for an adverturer such as me. I will say it is a bit thicker than many watches (almost as thick as most G-Shock watches, but not quite). The design of the bevel and rim is curved, however, so it does not snag on my clothing or anything. At $55 (price at time of purchase) I consider this an amazing value. If you are thinking about this watch, don't wait any longer. Go ahead and get it. You will not be disappointed.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Attempting 3rd watch
*by J***J on May 22, 2021*

Update: The 3rd watch arrived and was actually shipped inside of a "ready to ship" bag that the first 2 did not include. I do not know if this means the first 2 were returns/returns or if they were from a different batch or what, however the 3rd watch is perfect so far. Thanks again to Amazon for making it relatively painless to get a working watch. Updating reviewing from 3 to 4 stars. I purchased my first of these watches on April 14. The day I received it the screen glitched but I just cycled the modes and it seemed to be fine. I wore it for a month and on the 32nd day of ownership the screen glitched again and the watch reset itself to factory specs. Not exactly ideal for a watch that I was hoping to be able to rely on way out in the woods and on the water as a third back up compass. 2 days out of Amazon return window. A super nice Amazon associate helped me contact Casio for warranty services. Casio wanted me to pay to ship the watch to them so they could look at it and pay to ship it back to me when done. This is unacceptable for a $45 watch so I decided to order another one from Amazon. It's only $45 so no big deal right? I receive the second watch and after 5 hours of wearing (no the watch did not get wet or dropped) the screen glitched out on the 2nd watch. Knowing what this means I have already done a replacement return on Amazon and notified another super nice customer service representative of this issue. Perhaps the watches need new batteries. The displays are super strong and I can use the compass/thermo mode while spamming the light for about an hour and it doesn't die but perhaps the battery is weak. I did manage to get the first one I ordered apart with no issues, however there is a tiny spring that sproinged when I took the case back off and it has eluded me thus far. Still looking for it but it is so small it's probably gone for good. I decided to not try with the second one since I wanted to return and exchange it for a new one. If I need to replace the battery going forward I know to be very careful of the tiny spring that is in there and to remove it with tweezers asap. Getting the metal frame bit off of the movement itself is a bear. Might be best to just take to a jeweler for service but again.....its a $45 watch. Ugh. I am going to continue attempting to get a good one of these watches. If I see any issues at all on the next (3rd) one I will post an update. In the meantime I will probably drop the money on a more expensive compass watch and hope that I eventually get something I can rely on for my adventuring. I had the previous version of this watch (SGW100) and it lasted for 4-5 years before I lost it and I have been missing it badly ever since so I am invested in replacing it. The watch itself is great. Super lightweight. I find the screen quite readable but with a fairly low viewing angle. This is not a deal breaker for me. The backlight is amazing aside from the fact it is always set to be on a timer. The compass is accurate. I don't use the thermometer often but the few times I've tested, it was quite accurate after being off my wrist for a while. I like the band on this newer version a lot more than the one that was on my previous version of this watch. Based on experience with this style of watch band I can confidently estimate I will get 3 years from the band itself. If you can get a good one, or are will to be patient and send them back and forth to get a good one this is a great watch. If dealing with broken things and perhaps losing some money is scary for you, look elsewhere.
