Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory, Complete (Lessons * Ear Training * Workbook)-------------- (CD's Not Included)

This is absolutely the best textbook for music theory and ear training out there by far. Comparable to collegiate textbooks. From beginners to advanced. It suits all levels of musicians.

This is the best music theory workbook that I found. It has 3 books in 1 a total of 75 lessons in 18 units.

This is a good series if you are trying to learn music theory. The material is well organized, and clearly explained. Anyone can learn the essentials of music theory from these books. Unfortunately, the material is available in so many formats, you can get lost trying to figure out which version to buy. 1st up, you can buy 3 separate books. Since each book is only about 40 pages long, this really doesn't make that much sense. Also, you are going to want the ear training CDs. There are only 2 CDs for the 3 books. and you have to buy them as a complete set. So, you want to buy all the material at once. That brings us to this collection, which contains the text from all three books, but lacks the CDs. As I mentioned, the CDs are available separately, but if you could buy the book plus the CDs as a single package, you could save a little bit over purchasing both items separately. But, where is this all-in-one package? You might expect this to be called "Alfred's Essential of Music Theory Complete (Books 1 - 3 plus Ear Training CDs)." Alas, it is not. It's called "Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory: A Complete Self-Study Course for All Musicians (Book & 2 CDs)", and you can find it on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Alfreds-Essentials-Music-Theory-Self-Study/dp/0739036351/ref=sip_rech_dp_10 This version also appears to have the Answer Key (which you would have to purchase separately, for even more money, if you wanted to check the answers to the quizzes). I say "appears" because I foolishly purchased this version of the product, along with the separate CDs. But glancing at the Table of Contents of the other edition has convinced me that it includes the Answer Key as well. To summarize: this material is well worth buying, but there are too many ways to purchase it. Do yourself a favor, and buy the Complete Self-Study Course, not this edition.

Great book. It is used in my college class and ig helps with learning the more confusing or hard to grasp music theory concepts.

I bought this for self-learning without knowing there is no answer pages for these exercises in the book. Initial my thought was finding answers in YouTube or internet but I couldn’t find all answers. Second thought was returning this book and buy much expensive self-leaning version which includes answer pages and CDs. Problem is I already used it so even I can return it, still feeling bad. Final thought was check local library if they have self-learning version. To my surprise, they actually have. If you want answers, I suggest to check your state library.

The book arrived on time in perfect condition. I'm about a third of the way through the book and have found it very helpful and informative. Being a middle aged guy whose played music all his life but had limited understanding of theory, this book seems great for beginners of any instrument and the CD ear training is a nice touch. Good stuff!

Google comprehensive book on music theory. It is 3 books in one.

There are a lot of different options in this Alfred’s series, and it’s possible that this particular page has received reviews for different options over time. I recently (October 2024) ordered the set titled: Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory: Complete, Book & 2 CDs Spiral-bound – May 1, 1998 https://www.amazon.com/dp/0882849514?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title The book does have a nice spiral binding, and there were 2 CDs (which I believe is the entire ‘set’) in the back of the book. Everything was packed very well and delivered in great shape, which has been the case for almost all my orders from Amazon over time. I personally would have felt the need to have the CDs for this endeavor, so I would have probably purchased them separately if they were not contained in this package. Excellent ouvrage pour apprendre ou revoir des notions musicales théoriques. Pour une utilisation optimale, il faut se procurer les 2 CDs qui accompagnent ce livre car il y a plusieurs activités d’écoute. C’est aussi une bonne idée d’acheter le livre du professeur pour auto-correction. Les trois items sont vendus séparément. Long délai de livraison. Pensez à acheter ces items chez un autre détaillant. My adult harp and piano students enjoy using this theory book. The lessons are thorough and very well-explained. This is the best music theory workbook I've come across in my over 40 years of teaching instrumental music.

I bought this for my daughter who is 10 as we were struggling through another music theory book and had grinded to a halt. I have purchased the ear training music cds which go with this book from another site, musicroom. We have started again at the beginning and so far we are finding it thorough and easy to understand. It is an American book so it describes some things differently, for example, it calls quavers, eighth notes which could be confusing for someone without any musical knowledge.

Book Is perfect but the CD s were not provided. Should be a part of the pack as mentioned in the book.
