Works as it should
I use this on a 10 gallon tank and it works very well. I'd highly recommend this for a 10-20 gallon tank.

Missing piece
Mine was missing the tube that attaches to the end, so only came with The hose. It still worked to take water out though

Keep it simple and keep it clean
This siphon works exactly as one would expect. This is a much better design than the primer bulb style which tend to get clogged with stone chips and gunk so they lose suction and flow painfully slowly. The product is smaller than other siphons I’ve had in the past (I got the 5”) but for the 10-20 gallon size aquarium it’s fine. It’s not so large that it’s cumbersome to use or store. In fact the smaller size made priming the tubing a lot less messy. It got my gravel clean and had enough suction that little chips of gravel were removed with the fish waste. I collect my aquarium waste water for watering in the garden (great fertilizer!) and I was pleased that it emptied the water into my watering cans at a very manageable rate. I might have gone one size up for my 20 gallon but this was under $3 shipped so no complaints on the value. The next size up was still very reasonably priced.

Misleading- "self start" description
It does not self prime unless you like taking a fish water bath... you have to pump it into the water so hard it makes it get everywhere. I ended up hooking the hose up to a siphon and doing it that way. Very disappointing.

Too big and awkward for a 5 gallon or planted tank
Revised-> After trying to use this again I realized how difficult this was. On a tight space like my 5 gallon with plants and a root in it, there is simply not a good way to get the suction going. Plus the opening was too big to reach into the smaller areas of the bottom tank. It removed water too quickly for me to clean the substrate well., and I ended up dislodging my decorations. It was a disaster! -I subsequently went and bought a micro cleaner with a hand pump. MUCH better results! Even though this says it works for a 5 gallon tank, I wouldn't recommend it unless you have no tank decor.//Only used once so far on a super small 5 gallon tank. I am a beginner, so I didn't really know beforehand how this works. You need to submerge the "pump" end totally and be able to jerk it up and down underwater without splashing all over or freaking out your fish. I have minimal experience with this but figured it out rather quickly. In hindsight- the mini might have been easier to control for my tight space.

Great for the price!
It takes a little bit of minor work to get it going but it works great! It does suck some gravel through if you are not careful and that sucks but for the price of this I really can't complain.

it works well for my turtle tank
I bought it to clean the gravels for my turtle tank. This siphon is really simple, no switch or anything, (although it comes with a clip which in theory can make sure the tube doesn't get out of the bucket, but doesn't work for me) once I learned how to correctly operate it (start the vacuum process), it's easy to use, and the waterflow is not too fast, so I don't have to worry about sucking up too much water too fast, as I already have a lower water level, I don't want to fill up my bucket (5 gallon) too fast and make the tank (20 gallon long) too dry for the fishes.

Excellent quality at an affordable price
I am very happy with my new Aqueon Siphon Vacuum. My old one was a super cheepy (that I also loved for the price I paid for it) but sadly, the squeezy bulb gave out after a year. I paid a little more for this one, though not much more, and I have no regrets. When I first tried this vacuum, I tried pumping it up and down in the water as instructed, but it was just taking too long to get going. So I did suck on the hose to get it started and got the (ick!) mouth full of fish-tank water that everyone dreads. The second time I was wiser and gave it just a very quick bit of inbreath and it worked perfectly without me drinking any water! Less is more here, folks! I had my bucket sitting on a table just about 6" lower than my tank and it worked great. I didn't find it difficult to start or stop the flow when I wanted to, either. I think it's more about practice and timing than about the vacuum itself. The vacuum did an amazing job of cleaning the crap out of the gravel and very little gravel went up the hose. Sand might be a different story, I can't really comment on that.My absolute only complaint would be that the clip to attach the hose to the bucket doesn't work, it flips right off. But my old vacuum didn't have a clip at all, so no great hardship for me.I'm very happy with this Aqueon vacuum and I would recommend it.
