Rain Bird LNK2 Smart WiFi Module 2nd Generation - Irrigation Controller

My only regret is not purchasing this 4 years ago when we moved into our newly-built home and had the irrigation system set up for the lawn and landscaping. We have the ESP-ME3 Rainbird model; it took me a minute to figure out where this device plugs in (had to open a second panel that I didn't know existed), but as soon as I located that and plugged in the device, set up was only a few minutes. It was super easy to pair it with my phone. Making adjustments to the start times, watering days and duration is SO easy --- quite a bit easier than faster than doing it manually on the Rainbird station itself. I love that I can control our irrigation system from anywhere in the world. Very happy with this purchase - extremely easy and convenient to use.

Nice little upgrade from the previous model. Very easy to setup and use. It is compatible with my rainbird controller. Durable product and functions well. I didn't need a replacement, but the Bluetooth feature helps with connection.

Plug and play. Works great, and it's a lot easier to adjust the controller using the Rain Bird app as opposed to doing it manually on the controller itself. Just be aware, when it asks you to set up a passcode for the controller in the app, make sure you stick to 4-8 characters or numbers. I mistakenly thought it was a standard password, and entered in something much longer. As a result, it chopped the PW off and I couldn't recover it. You then need to delete the controller from the app and reinstall it. It's just something as simple as a four digit code so you can share access to other users temporarily. But it also allows you access into the settings menu, so if you screw this step up, you won't be able to set notifications, etc. Other than that little error, I got it up and running in no time, and it is nice to be able to control my sprinklers when I am out of town.

I finally got this installed after 2.5 hours of effort. First, the module would not connect to my cell phone so I had to use second cell phone. Then, I could not find my SSID in the app. I had to change my router setup and move the router much closer to the controller. After that worked, the application failed to add the controller to the application. I reset the module and re-entered everything again. Finally, the system was set up correctly. I order a Wi-Fi booster from Amazon. Summary: Pros: o Application provides all kinds of functionality from anywhere in the world o Module installation is very easy o Module works with almost all controllers o Wi-Fi is actually okay, don't know why I had so many problems connecting Cons: o No printed instructions o Bluetooth connection is sketchy but eventually I got good connectivity o Wi-Fi setup was difficult o Had to literally go through the setup about 20 times to make it work Even with the setup issues, I would buy this again. Functionality is worth the effort.

I hate that this device was so expensive. Obviously it is grossly overpriced, BUT it was the easiest installation I ever made and works like a charm. To install this in your COMPATIBLE RainBird controller. there is a slot where you just insert this tiny device. Previously you would have installed the iOS or Android compatible app on you cell phone, then when the device was installed the app could "look" for it. Once found all you need to do is to type in your own WiFi password to bring it up to speed. My RainBird was kind of a pain to program, but the RainBird app allowed you to fully program the timer. It even allows you to turn your sprinklers on from any place in the world if you have access to a WiFi system!

Not an absolute necessity in my case, but it has been very handy to have remote access to the sprinkler controls. Not only can I adjust settings while traveling, it’s also been great to kick off a zone to troubleshoot an issue from where I’m standing. Only minor complaint is that it’s sometimes a little slower to connect than I would expect.

My Rain Bird irrigation system is not located near any WiFi system, so I needed to use the Permanent AP/Hotspot mode of the LNK2 module, which is described on the Rain Bird website. In Hotspot mode, the only link is between the Rain Bird app on your phone and the LNK2 module, so you have to be very close. I have a ESP-ME3 controller, and an iPhone with iOS 26.6.1. I downloaded the Rain Bird app from the Apple App Store (version 2.19.9(1)). I installed the LNK2 and told the App to add the ESP-ME3. I started with the blue light flashing on the LNK2. I did a few steps in the App, and the LNK2 light changed to blinking red and green. I could see on my phone that the phone was connected to a WiFi network started by the LNK2 (named something like RainBird90CD90). The WiFi icon was showing in the top right on my phone. Then the App said "Unable to Join the Network". I talked to Rainbird customer service, they had some suggestions on resetting the LNK2 (press its button for 10 seconds) and others. I tried all the suggestions several times, but always ended up with the App saying "Unable to Join the Network", and the App never added my ESP-ME3 to its connected list. So if you need to use Hotspot mode, it may not work. I am returning it.

Excellent upgrade for a Rain Bird irrigation system. Installation was quick, the app is easy to use, and remote control works perfectly. I love being able to adjust watering schedules from anywhere and take advantage of weather-based watering adjustments. Highly recommended!
