Great lights at a great price
These lights rock! Very bright output makes a huge difference at night, without the need for high cost other brand lights. Use them around town when I am alone on the road, and they work just great. Do not see a need to go with higher wattage or more costly options. When you install, take your time. The relay it comes with has different numbering on it than normal but has a chart on the side to give you the standard relay post numbers. No idea why it is like that but no big deal. Also recommend you use some heavier guage wires for the positive and negative runs to the battery and fuse box. Also buy a in line fuse for the positive lead to the battery. The kit comes with an inline fuse for the switch to the fuse box only. Not hard to install other than the switch does not tell you what side is up so you can get the posts backward (I did) and have no power going to the relay. Did some testing and found I had the switch upside down and the positive and negative backwards on the back of it. Flipped the wires around and viola, day light at night time. Wish I put these on my Jeep sooner, they help out the weak factory headlights a ton!

Hella, affordable and brighter than LED.
Until I get some back woods photos, this one will have to do. It's bright as hell compared to my low beams and high beams. However, I'm up in arms about the Hella Off road Incandescent lights still providing better overall coverage. Installed on a 2015 Crosstrek. First photo shows, low beams with four Hella O/R Lights. Second photo shows, Auxbeam Spot Lights. Installation wasn't too complicated at all, a lot of customization went into mounting them to an SSD Front Rally Light Bar and running them inline with a switchboard. Took about 15 minutes to mount the lights down and run wires to a previously installed switchboard. I will say, the Hella 500FF's are a great addition to the car. It has an extremely wide spread, photos don't do it justice, they're the brightest Hella produces as an entry level offroad light. I wanted to go with the Black Magic series, but I'm glad I didn't. The BM series have the least amount of light output of the entry level offroad lights. I can opt for the black covers since they're on sale on Amazon as well, since that was mainly the selling point apart from the practicality of the bright 500FF's. If I needed more, which I don't, I'd buy Hella again! The drawback was the wiring kit and switch that it came with. Definitely not capable of running four lights on one kit of wires. The instructions were pretty much jargon, the switch wasn't that appealing. Understandable though, the wiring kit can work, as long as you can figure out the diagram they provide!

Easy install, nice to look at, not too bright
I purchased these lights for my 2008 VW Rabbit, I'll review it in order of my overall experience with the product. Arrival/packaging: The lights came in packaged very well and secure, the box was easy to open and unpacking everything was easy and didn't leave styrofoam tidbits all over the place. Reviewing/understanding the instructions: The instructions I wouldn't say were worded in a way that was easy to understand, but it did come with a wiring diagram that I would say most simpletons like my self can decipher so I would say most people who have a little bit of common sense can figure it out without too much issue. Installation: I'll start by saying that everyone's experience will vary based on the mount points you choose to use and how you decide to manage wires. My car had a placard drilled to the front bumper from the dealership I purchased it from, so I removed my bumper to remove the placard which supplied me with pre-drilled holes, but I will say that my particular car's bumper removal process is a pain in the a%# even when you have the proper tools for it. The wiring is very basic, you have have one that goes to the battery, one that gets grounded, and one that goes to the switch, I would say the biggest challenge with the wiring is passing the switch wire through the firewall, and also mounting the switch, I opted to drill a hole right below my headlight dial-switch and it has worked out great. Overall I'd say despite your chosen mounting procedure, the installation is considerably easy once you have those details figured out. Brightness: This is where I'd say my expectations were not met. Like a lot of things in life, this is one of those things that you get what you pay for, and this is no different. I was hoping that this would work in conjunction with my normal head lights and give me a much better, if not superb, increase in night time visibility, but I find all they have done is widen the cone, which to a degree is nice because you can have an easier time seeing critters who are contemplating a scatter across the road. As nice as it is to be more mindful of local wildlife, that's not primarily why I purchased the lights, which seem to be washed out by my normal headlights/high beams. I would say that if you are expecting a 'night time rally stage' quality of brightness, then I'd encourage you to plan for, and buy, two or three sets of these lights, to hopefully come close to that kind of quality. Overall rating: Overall I'd say that while my hopes for brightness were not met, these lights have an aesthetic that is pleasing to look at, and have given my car a more rally spec appeal, and the color scheme coordinate perfectly with my car as well. I may in the future take my own advice and purchase more sets of these lights to hopefully get the brighter night time drive that I crave, but in hindsight, if I would have done a little more window shopping, or maybe put in the extra money for a light bar or a superior light of a similar style, I would've been happier the first time.

Nice Old School Lights
These are old school lights that I installed on my Land Rover Defender. They are a perfect replacement for the old lights that rusted away. The included wiring harness made the install seamless. The night is now lit up!

HELLA of a Light
Wiring harness doesn't follow US electronics wiring code. I rewired wires so ground was black and +12Vdc was red. Also bought a different switch to replace the low quality switch profided in kit. I didn't particularily like the quallity of the stranded wire making up the harness. I laid out the lamps and wiring before install to make sure I understood the profided schematic which wasn't clearly drawn. Tested lights with harness, relay and a 12vdc battery to make sure everything switched on and worked like it should. I made sure the wires were at the proper length for hookup to where I placed my lights and on/off switch. I soldered all wire splices and used heat-shrink to cover them. I made note of the wire colors connected to the switch. If the switch wiring is wrong the relay doesn't function correctly and the lights won't work. I disconnected everything and headed for the truck! Installed wiring with no difficulties. Used tie wraps and black flexable wire covering for protected stable install. Made sure, I had a good ground connection to the Tacoma's frame and good 12v power connection directly to the battery. ( You can wire the lamps to come on with the headlights. So, one of the power connections would change, as noted in the instructions. I choose to control the lamps seperately. Make sure you decide what configuration you'll use, before the install...) After all was finished, I turned them on and aligned them. I took a ride in the evening to make sure that the lights were stable and didn't have any intermittant shaking or blinking problems, which they didn't. I had installed the lamps onto my heavy duty front bumper guard and look really great. The lamps are well made and good quality. The only problem was the wiring harness appeared fragile and required some inspection and rework. The directions weren't well written and the provided schematic needed some study to figure out the color code. If your patient enough to work out the minor kinks, this lamp kit is worth the effort for the price. NOTE: only three(3) stars because of the wire harness...

A great kit for a classic look!
I recently helped add a bull bar to an '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. We wanted some simple “old school” offroad/driving lights, and this HELLA kit fit the bill. The kit comes with (almost) everything needed to complete the install. The instructions are OK, but if you aren’t very experienced with automotive electrical systems or are simply a bit nervous about completing the install yourself, having someone around with that experience is helpful. In this case, I was the “experienced” guy helping my little brother install this kit on his Jeep. The kit includes all the necessary hardware for installation. However, I needed some additional 16/18 gauge wire to make a successful run from power to the switch as well as ground to the switch. The kit provides a method to connect these to your high-beam for switching or to use the provided switch. We opted for the manual switch. This is simply due to the location of the fuse block in the Jeep to the driver’s side firewall (fuse block is on the Passenger side in the far front). I had the wire and soldered in the extensions of wire though you can use crimps if you desired. Total installation took about 2 hours as I was having my brother do most of the work with my instruction when needed. I also recommend buying some split loom corrugated tubing from Amazon. There are a few options out there. It allows you to effectively “hide” your wiring runs from the lights to the engine bay as well as the runs to the switch. This coupled with some zip-ties gives you a much cleaner look for instances where your wiring would be exposed. The lights are bright, and once adjusted, threw a great beam down the road. These aren’t meant for consistent driving use; you will annoy/blind other drivers (and probably get a ticket if Officer Friendly catches you driving around with these on). But for dark roads country roads, offroad, or adverse conditions (when you’d use high beams) these are a great supplement. The kit includes white covers/shields, though we purchased the HELLA Protective Grill Covers (also from Amazon) to leave on full time. Definitely a recommended kit if you want that “classic” non-LED look.
