A visual treat - one can only hope for more messages from Entropia
Entropia - A Collection of Unusually Rare Stamps - Christian Lorenz Scheurer This is a quirky book that appeals to me as an admirer of fictional alternate worlds. Most readers of literature have visited at least one of these locations: Middle Earth, Narnia, Dinotopia and the world of the Muggles in the Harry Potter books to name a few of the most widely know. There are numerous others that have enchanted readers of fantasy and science fiction for years. This book created a history on stamps of the culture, locations, notable individuals and celebrations on the planet Entropia. The author, a very talented artist, presents us with an album of fascinating postage stamp illustrations and a description of the reason for each issue. Be sure to check out the 90 cent "Egg-rolling Women of Polaris" commerative stamp; the 45 cent "Naka-Nut Farmers of Tikar" agricultural stamp and the "Two-and-a Half Tenors" music appreciation stamp to name a few. A visual treat - one can only hope for more messages from Entropia.

Too bad it wasn't thicker
The book tells the story of planet Entropia through stamps. It's like those limited edition collectible stamp books published by post offices from time to time, except the stamps here are larger and unusable (unless you're on Entropia). The 128-page book is slightly larger than a DVD case but presented horizontally.Inside are 60 stamps created with ink and watercolour. That's one stamp per page printed on a black background, with the accompanying text on the page beside. It's written like a travel guide or postcard, touching on topics like famous produce in areas, the culture of inhabitants, historical events, failed government experiments (e.g. float cities with balloons), snapshots of life and other very interesting stories. The art is beautiful, but it's the stories that really give the book depth. It's positively creative and enjoyable to read. Highly recommended.(More pictures are available on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

Wonderfully Charming
Even though this book, at first glance, appears to be an art book, there is a very charming story woven into the "stamp" descriptions, as well. Each page features an illustration of a stamp from the imaginary realm of "Entropia" and a description of the event or history the stamp is commemorating. I read this book in two sittings, only because I had an appointment to keep that tore me away from such a beautiful book. Once finished, this book left me with a strong desire to read and see more of Christian Lorenz Scheurer's "Entropia".

My eyes were opened and my heart was inspired.
As an artist of middle age, I sometimes think of my art as good and my growth as complete... that is, until I look at work like this.Suddenly I feel like a beginner again, with nothing to do but learn and get better at my art. Mr. Scheurer teaches this teacher how to teach better, just by the inspirational settings he creates and the drawings he does from deep in his imagination. There is a whole world residing in him that is too fanciful to describe. He is my new favorite artist.

worth all the entropian cents you can afford
I think this book is totally worth the full price. First of all, it's hardback, which is rare for these kind of books. And second of all, it's in beautiful full color and you can tell the artist was very dedicated and creative in creating these characters, creatures, and stories in this book. Plus, there aren't a lot of concept art books out there with actual narratives, which is a pleasant change and makes the book appealing to less enthusiastic fans of the genre. If I had an extra copy, I'd consider tearing the pages out to use as posters on my wall. I know that's not the point, but the stamps in this book are almost too cool to sit in a book all the time.

I love this book
Bought this book as a gift for a friend but then ended up keeping it for myself. The fantastic story and beautiful illustrations felt like a mix between Nick Bartock's Griffin and Sabine and Miyazaki's Spirited Away. This is most inspiring fantasy book I read this year!:)
