An old reliable standard that is ageless in it's usefulness
I got my first copy of this book in 1973 when I began taking drum lessons in the 5th grade in school. It has survived and been duct and masking taped back together many times. I have used it all my life as a reference etc. When I recently began teaching drums to children in the 7-9 year old age range, I thought what better way to teach them than the way I learned. A very straightforward book with lots of good lessons and exercises. I love the order that it teaches stick holding, note values. simple rhythms etc. It progresses very naturally and I can't really imagine a better way to introduce any age student to learning the snare drum and all the rudiments, which is the only logical predecessor to learning the whole drum set.

New drummer or seasoned veteran looking to strengthen your technique then this is the book
I had this book years and years ago when I first started to play the drums. I quit playing for 30 years and decided to pick it up again. I could not think of any better way to "relearn" than to buy this and start at page 1 all over again. If you have never played the drums and want to learn, this is the book you want. If you are looking to hone and strengthen your technique then this book will definitely be one to own. This book really helps to remember and work on your rudiments !

You can't go wrong with Haskell Harr
I learned to play percussion with this book back in the 70s. Now I am teaching my son using the same book. It hasn't changed a bit since then and it doesn't need to as the basics are still exactly the same. Love this book!

Drum method is very accurate!
This book is great. I've been studying from it for years and have also purchased other as gifts for other musicians friends. It really gets to the core of the methods and techniques to help guide you to playing music on this instrument. It approaches wrist strokes, accents within rudiments, syncopation. this book displays a great concept of how to apply rudiments to music and how to identify which rudiment in a pattern. Awesome book.

Great for teaching the fundamentals
This is the same book that I learned from as a child and it is still my favorite book to use as a teacher for the rudiments and all the foundational drumming stuff. It is excellent. That being said, I use the Realistic Rock book by Carmine Appice for teaching the drum set in conjunction with this rudimental base because most drummers want to do more than play the snare drum. Using both books, they get the best of both worlds.

The classic book!
This is the classic. I've taught from this for many years and it helps to produce fine percussionists.
