useful tips
I have extensive background in UNIX systems, but am new to FreeBSD.I found lots of assorted good information in this book, both by wayof explaining how various things work as well as illustrating how someobscure command can be used to do something really useful. That beingsaid, don't expect this book to be a comprehensive treatment of FreeBSD.It's more like a compendium of interesting little topics.

"Whats good for the goose "
For me, the most important thing when choosing a unix book is the material interpretation of the author, and how he/she can communicate his knowledge through a book, in this case I was right again, this author (dru) is one of the most capable in doing so, her explanations are super and the basic topics are covered in a foolproof approach. "Its a basic foundation for FreeBSD"

The Best of FreeBSD Basics
I own a copy of every FreeBSD book ever written. I can honestly say that Dru Lavigne's new book is simply the best FreeBSD how-to book out there. This book is well written with specific instruction on how to make things work.Make no mistake about it.....Whether you are a novice or a system administrator, you need this book in your library. Unlike other FreeBSD books out there which basically copy the online handbook, Dru Lavigne compiled literally hundreds of FreeBSD tricks in this new book. You won't be disappointed!

Lessened My Learning Curve
The content is slightly dated now, but it is still very helpful for getting up and running with the BSDs. I wish this was the first BSD book I read.

Wow.
Very good book. Extremely informative and easy to read. The information here will help you get the job done. The only drawback is the information is slightly outdated, such as "mount -t msdos" on modern FreeBSD systems should be "mount -t msdosfs".
