Light and easy to use
Used them for the first time on a 25k trail run. After watching a few youtube vids on best way to use them. Made a huge difference on steep uphills, and negotiating rocky downhills. Was very happy to have them when my leg cramped up for a bit. I'm 6'1" 220lb, and never felt like they'd break or anything. Folded up easily to stow on my pack.

Sharknado?
I love the shark bite straps. I gave away a pair of Paria trekking poles to a fellow ultra runner after I got these. There was nothing wrong with the Paria poles, they're a great bargain and a perfect intro pole for folks new to going long but I found getting my hands in and out of the strap on them annoying. Not impossible, not hard, just annoying. With these you leave the straps on your hands and just unhook them. They open and fold about the same as any collapsible poles overall. I'm not 100% sure about the longevity of the 'pen click' type mechanism to lock them in and release them but we'll see. I've put about 50 miles on them without any issues.

I use these poles for both "Nordic Walking" and more rugged trekking.
There is nothing that I dislike about these poles. They are light and strong. The adjustment range is perfect for me. I am 5'11". Typical Leki quality which is very good. Occasionally I have to adjust the locks but that is easy.

light weight and breaks down fast
I had never used trekking poles before, but they do help going up steep terrain by keeping you upright. Takes some of the weight off your legs and put it on your arms.

Very Satisfied Customer - New to Trail Running
I don't write reviews very often, but I feel the need to do so for this product. I am 49 years old, did endurance swimming for a few years and switched to trail running after receiving new medical orthodics after 30 years and now being able to run! Planning on doing a 30k in Nicaragua next February (Fuego y Agua), where there is a 4500' ascent up a volcano over the course of 3 miles and then down, also three miles. I've been running for about 4-5 months. After watching a large number of trail running documentaries and reading online, I decided to take the plunge and get some poles. I also felt like I needed poles for a 30% grade volcano. I had also read that they helped with posture and weight distribution (easier on knees) on uphills and balance on downhills.I read a number of reviews and debated between Black Diamond, Leki, and several other brands. I have a general philosophy (as I've gotten older) that I am usually much happier with higher quality, more expensive goods - not that more expensive automatically translates into higher quality, but there usually is a correlation. So, if I was going to do poles, I decided to get really good ones.I wanted: (1) carbon fiber, as I wanted them very lightweight (I knew I would be carrying them for some of the time and the lighter the better; (2) adjustable (I've never used them so I thought I would sacrifice a little weight for the ability to adjust to the perfect height); (3) made for trail running (not trekking); (4) easy to assemble and disassemble (while on the run); (5) strong (I am 6' and about 190 lbs. If I am running down a hill (or up) I don't want the thing breaking on me.So, I opted for the Leki because they fit the bill for all of those items, but they were (by far) the most expensive. I told myself that I would not know if I liked poles if they weren't high quality and to focus on what would best meet my needs.I have now used poles on every long run since October (about three months). I alternate between 8 miles and longer distances (this week will be 16 miles). Here are the main thoughts:1. I am very glad I purchased these poles. The basic mechanics are easy once you get the hang of it. Things I had to figure out: (a) how to remove the plastic tip protectors (don't forget or they will be more difficult to do after using with them); (b) how to assemble and collapse them (not too hard, easy when you know how to do it - watched YouTube video); and (c) how to tighten (and loosen) the screw on the clamp (to fix the length) - it is a little plastic wheel with friction teeth you turn to tighten or loosen the clamp (first I didn't know this and used the poles and the length didn't stay fixed.2. The Trigger S Shark system for connecting your hands to the poles is fantastic and different than any other system. Most poles (that I have seen) have a nylon/fabric loop you put your hands into. Leki's with this system have a piece of durable mesh that goes over your hands (or gloves), and it has a hook that snaps into the poles themselves. To release you push on the top of the pole. Once you get the hang of this, it is so great. I go a lot from using my poles to carrying them (training both) and/or feeding on the run, and the quick release while you are running is very easy. I like it a lot. The mesh is very breathable, and I have not yet had a problem with it (although I have mostly run in colder weather).3. My length was 130 cm. They have a nice diagram that comes with them to tell you what height to have for trail running or for trekking. I went with their recommendation, and I wasn't disappointed. These micro vario poles go from 110 to 130 cm. So, mine are at max length, but they fit great.4. I can't imagine not having poles anymore. I watched some YouTube videos on technique and then kept practicing on the weekends. Now, they are normal for me and feel very natural. I commonly use the alternating technique and double pole up particularly (for me) steep. The stronger my legs get, the more I am using alternating technique to powerhike up the hills.5. The poles are great for uphill, but even better downhill and in the mud. I have saved myself from a fall with them, and they just help stabilize you.Bottom line - I don't see a lot of poles in the Midwest (where I run), but I recommend them to everyone who is thinking about trying them. And these are top notch. I think if I were to buy another pair, I would buy straight 130 cm poles, but I have no need (they are so light - you will be amazed how light they are) to buy new ones, as these are very light.
