XcutGuillotine Paper Cutter, 13-Inch

Since neither the Tonic or Scor-Pal 12"guillotine paper cutters seem to be available any more, I tried the X-Cut version based upon the strength of others' reviews. What a disappointment!This thin plastic marvel looks OK but delivers nothing in the way of function. Small pull-out bars at top and bottom of the unit, supposedly to support large sheets of paper, are inconvenient to use. The ruler stamped into each bar is very hard to see even with direct overhead lighting.The blade itself does Not cut a consistently straight line on cardstock and is totally useless with lighter weight papers. The clear blade shield holds paper down firmly but will not allow you to get close enough to trim away fine cuts. Anything less than a 3/8" cut does not happen.The absolute deal killers are the rulers marked in black mounted on the top and bottom of the units base. Continental measurement is on the top with American inches on the bottom. It proved surprisingly bothersome to change long standing work habits, looking to the bottom to measure and line up the paper. But the final straw was the black tic at 5.5", a standard indication of half an 11" page, off by over 1/8th inch. If you can't trust the measurements of a ruler designed to size cut pieces, why keep it?With way too many hassles encumbering this product, It went back in a hurry.

I love that it is white and looks great in my all white home. For a home crafter this is amazing. I am not sure how accurate the measurements are, but for cutting out sides of things that I printed it is perfectly funtional. Sometimes if you are too near the top or bottom it might slide by less than 1mm but it's barely noticeable. I cut int he middle. I was looking for a white guillotine that's lightweight and easy to use and this has been perfect.

A solid and sturdy guillotine which effortlessly cuts through several pieces of paper or thin card. It is very accurate on the Gide lines and the blade is very sharp

This guillotine is great value for money and is very sturdy. Just the great quality you expect from Xcut.

Very disappointed with this. Got a refund and threw it in the bin...why? Because it doesn’t cut straight. The metal ruler that the blade cuts along is off at the bottom! Don’t know if this is a ‘bad’ one of they are all like this. Kept wondering why my cut pieces weren’t even too and bottom! The cover that houses the magnet keep dropping off everything I pick the guillotine up! Had to tape it down (I shouldn’t have to do that!). Also the Alan key keeps falling out of its holder at the back and the guillotine keeps needing tightening with the Alan key.

The only reason I gave this trimmer only 3 stars is because every time you cut, the cutting handle tightens and you have to keep loosening it up with the alan key. So I'm talking every 5 or 6 cuts. and then you have to loosen it. Has anyone any ideas of how this could be rectified? I had my last Xcut guillotine for 14 years before the handle eventually broke but it did get a lot of use so I wasn't surprised but I never had to touch the the handle of that one.
