ICHI: The Movie

A quick review of the film, then why the DVD over a blu:This is more or less a Zatoichi chanbara- with the part of Ichi played by a female lead. She definitely kills it (no pun), very well acted, and excellent with action/swordplay scenes. The film itself is very well done: well shot, beautifully choreographed fight scenes, nicely done FX work (it’s quite bloody), a pleasure to watch. The story is pretty good too, though mind you: it’s a Zatoichi film. If this is something you’re familiar with, then you know: girl wanders into town, confronted by baddies, kills them all, intro new characters, intro baddie boss, scene in the gambling house using blind superpowers, makes a friend, fights, defeat by baddie, reflection and hit rock bottom, friend in trouble and to the rescue, baddie showdown...in the end she wanders off...this is basically an outline for every Zatoichi film, so if you haven’t seen it will be new, and if you have, its an interesting take and the swordplay is quite good, and she is slso searching for Zatoichi, who knows, she may just find him...?Just keep this in mind: Shintaro Katsu was a seriously charismatic and enigmatic actor. He played the role for many years, so he really slipped into that skin flawlessly. Even though a lot of Z films can follow a formula (above), he always made it like a different film every time. The thing is this: even though he was a Yakuza, and did vicious and terrible things, and lived a life that was bloody and painful...bit he could always do something to make you smile. He had a lot of personality that could really make you feel for the character.Ichi is NOT Zatoichi. She is a good actress as said, and she’s emotional and powerful and you do feel for her, but she is serious as a heart attack. The whole film is really. Don’t expect her to fall into a hole in the road and a group of kids to laugh as she gets a ‘wah wah’ face (ala Z)...she does business and takes names. Still, a very good film. I liked it a lot.Why DVD over blu? I just wanted to see it. A rental was still like 20 bucks, and a blu was like 60. If the price gets more in control, i’d get a blu- rereleased maybe. Fingers crossed and eyes open.

ICHI BLIND SWORDSWOMAN JAPANESE film from ICHI BLIND SWORDSMAN (Zatoichi) 2003 film. They both are excellent movies. From the one in year of 1967 ICHI (Zatoichi) Great to.❤️❤️❤️❤️ There there is some excellent Japanese movie too.

I very much like this movie, i don’t usually watch movies over and over. Yet not to bad, action,… with a story.

From the video-cinema view 5 stars, from the story line 5 stars, from the action tension etc.. 5 stars! I love this movie she plays it perfectly, it semi-mirrors Zatoichi stories.My ONLY complaint is the really lame dubbing if you prefer the English dubbed selection.. 2 stars.. max!The dubbing really is not good, the male voice-over is so r e a d i n g f r o m t h e s c r i p t that it really gets annoying, (the woman voice-over is pretty good though, since Ichi is a quiet character anyway)I like to watch it in the original, and read the subtitles, which are clear and perfect, - 5 stars! They also don't take over the screen's view only if the dialogue is 2 lines. (Note, if you use "Cinema" mode on your tv, it will crop out the subtitles).I REALLY liked the movie, and I may get more from Funimation. So yeah the movie itself is a solid addition to your collection.Note.. this review is for the DVD version, I can only imagine the Blue Ray version is even nicer looking!Jim

I'm a big fan of foreign films especially Korean and Chinese films I saw the trailer of Ichi it looked good so I bought it and I'm glad I Did Ichi exceeded my expectations the movie takes place in feudal Japan and follows a blind woman Ichi who's very adept with musical instruments as well as a sword she is looking for the blind swordsman who trained her along the way she comes across a village being harassed by a brutal warlord and his gang and gets dragged into the conflict there lots of great and gory battle scenes many men think Ichi is easy prey big mistake on their part the acting cinematography soundtrack and storyline are all great the main actress who plays Ichi was AMAZING Truly a great performance the ending is very emotional and a little sad but is still a good positive happy endingI got the blu Ray version the picture and audio quality are amazing and the blu Ray includes both English dub and the original japanese with English subtitles I highly recommend watching it with the original Japanese with English subtitles dubbing really sucks and lowers the quality of the film don't get upset about the subtitles once you get into the movie you won't even realize your reading themOverall Ichi is an amazing movie with quality acting and storyline Foreign films are easily destroying Hollywood these days especially Asian cinemaHighly recommended

This movie was actually better than I expected. The acting and the storyline were better than average. As a measure, I asked my wife, who usually hates Japanese movies, to watch it with me and she was very impressed. She thought the character was very sympathetic and even though I had to explain a lot of the dialogue to her (she doesn't understand English well enough to read the subtitles quickly) she found the story engaging.The picture was crisp on my Panasonic 50" plasma and the sound was fine. There is a "Making of featurette" and a few trailers. Sometimes these types of movies come without any extra features so when I get them on top of a really good movie I'm gratified.All in all it was a good addition to my video library.

Superbe film entre action et émotion, brillamment interprété par Haruka Ayase , dont presque toutes les actrices américaines et surtout françaises devraient prendre des leçons de cinéma. Les acteurs et actrices asiatiques ( particulièrement du Japon et de Corée ) sont bien meilleurs, comme toujours.

際立つ美しさ!

Edición UK bastante sencilla, sólo con audio japonés y subtítulos en inglés. En el apartado técnico no tiene ningún defecto.Como pegas, el hecho que los subtítulos sean forzados (aunque no pegados) no me gusta demasiado, además que se le echa en falta algún que otro extra (la edición americana los trae) a parte del único trailer en definición standard que incluye.Pero por el precio ajustado que tiene no se puede pedir mucho más.

Ich habe diesen film beim Japanischen Filmfest in Hamburg gesehn. Ich war sofort verliebt, nach dem ehr durchschnittlichen Zatoitchi von Takeshi Kitano, besonders wenn man die Orginal Filme kennt.Dieser Film verschafft der Serie einen neue frische, den Shintaro Katsu kann man nicht ersetzen er hat Zatoitchi einfach zu sehr geprägt.Ein neuanfang ist das einzigste was funktioniert und dass wurde mit diesem Film geschafft.
