I tie a high tension fishing line to it and I can pick up things. Full contact with flat surface of magnet has strongest magnetic pull. IMPORTANT: If you are going to use a magnet for picking things up make sure you choose a strong enough magnet and strong enough fishing line for the weight of the item/s your picking up. Strong Magnet... Super Strong in fact
Wow, I was afraid this was going to be just another magnet, but this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm using it in my transmission pan and it's perfect. Super Strong and a real… Rare Earth Magnet. Be careful, these are extremely brittle. So be gentle, or it will shatter. I know because I busted a few over the years.
