Deeper Thoughts, All New

Super duper laugh out loud funny!
I was a big fan of Deep Thoughts on SNL in the 90's and had one of Jack Handey's other books back then, but had forgotten about it over the years. I stumbled across this book on Amazon and ordered it, not knowing if I would still find the deep thoughts funny. OMG! They're still hilarious to me! I laughed out loud, something I rarely do, for 30 minutes while waiting for my son to get out of his guitar lesson. I was delighted to find that my 10 year old, and especially my 13 year old, thought they were funny too. (My 7 year old daughter didn't get them though.) Yes, some are funnier than others but the really funny ones make me laugh so hard I want to cry. We looked up videos on You Tube so they could hear Jack Handey's voice to get the full effect. My older son wants to take the book to school tomorrow to share with his friends. I'm so proud. He shares my same quirky sense of humor. Here's one of my favorites: I remember how, in college, I got that part-time job as a circus clown, and how the children would laugh and laugh at me. I vowed, then and there, that I would get revenge.

Brilliantly Insane (or is it Insanely Brilliant?)
Jack Handey is consistently funny and irreverent in all forms - whether it was his writing during his SNL years, his many "Deep Thoughts" books, or his newer stuff. His "insights" are often worthy of a sincere laugh-out-loud, and sometimes cruel enough to feel a twinge of guilt for having enjoyed the suffering of the character Handey creates. The book is simply another collection of Handey's brilliant one-liners and insane situations. If you're not familiar with this style of humor, I HIGHLY suggest you at least do a search for "Deep Thoughts" before jumping in - it's defintely not for everyone. Otherwise this is a great buy or a gift for someone who enjoys Handey. Despite the fact that almost all of the "Deep Thoughts" are on the Internet already, a hard copy is nice to have available on your desk to help get you through some of those rough days. Plus, it's always great to support (even in the smallest way) writers as funny as Handey.

Only the humorless will find this unfunny
I saw a few one-star reviews saying this was not funny or witty. I GUARANTEE those are the same people who say "I have a great sense of humor, BUT..."I remember as a kid in the 90's dying laughing as Jack Handy stuff got airtime on SNL. He's a real person btw! Now I got this so my 9 and 11 year old could have some wisdom in life. Get all his books. They are the best coffee-table reads anyone could ask for. They are also a great way of weeding out unfunny guests in your home.

Funny
It's still funny but it is somehow dated. Book 1 is better

Way out there! I love it!
This type of humor isn’t for everyone. For me it’s great, not so much for my wife. Her loss.

Seriously, if this book doesn't make you laugh, I might hate your guts.
In all my years, I've never stopped laughing at these. My wife laughs at them. Our kids laugh at them. Most of them are clean enough for little kids - like I think there are only 2 pages I haven't read to them.UPDATE: Something reminded me of one of these to say from another Deep Thoughts book yesterday and it still made my kids laugh. Then, it reminded them of more and they said ones from this book too. Stuff from these books just comes up every once in a while. They're really funny.

Not worth it
Funny stuff. Too small. Only one thought on each page. Would rather have a book of all of them.

This is like comedic prozac
This is like comedic prozac, but many of the quotes are also found in the other books which I found annoying. Each book should have it's own quotes Jack! Just sayin'.

Playful
Gently flakey. There is something in so many of these insights which gets you in touch with the human condition, and often as not, makes you laugh.

a classic, printed on the cheap.
a classic. but it looks as though it was printed on toilet paper. all of the art is a bit like a rorschach test, which is unfortunate, because the art was always an integral part of every snl deepthoughts reading.
