Makes both adults and kids laugh
I used to read the Calvin & Hobbes books when I was a kid and remember them fondly. I have now bought all of the books for my own kids. We enjoy reading them together every night (I laugh out loud frequently at these strips, so it's something I look forward to as well). My older son is an avid reader, and has already re-read the books we've finished multiple times. He doesn't seem to get tired of them. The biggest difference I've seen is in my younger son. When I tried reading other books with them at bed time, he'd always wander off or start playing with something else. With Calvin & Hobbes, not only does he stay put (miracle!), but he asks questions about what all the big words mean, and he shocked me the other day when I came across him reading one of these books. Voluntarily. On purpose. With access to plenty of other things to play with. So yeah, definitely worth buying!

Calvin and Hobbes, we love you!
Bought this for my 7 year old who loves comics, and its been a hit! It was nostalgic for me, and so fun to have him excited to read it each morning. He has read it in it's entirety 4 days in a row now. He was a little disappointed that it was not in color, but got over it quickly! I think this is a great one for those kids who feel like reading chapter books can be daunting. Starting with comics is the way all of my kids have caught the reading bug. Old school comics are the way to go!

CLASSIC SPACEMAN SPIFF
I loved this book as a kid and I wanted to share the joy with my own family. My stepdaughter dove right in and cuddled up with this under a blanket with a flashlight, even after lights out; which is the perfect way to read this. I can't wait to buy all the books to have in my own house and have the kids learn the elusive rules of Calvin Ball. Buy it, even if you read it in the past, it still holds up and is great today.

Calvin and Hobbes was an enormously popular comic in all major newspapers in the USA. The story is about a six-year old boy, Calvin and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes. For Calvin, Hobbes is a ferocious big tiger, for everybody else, it is just a small stuffed puppet. Calvin and Hobbes where two famous philosophers and I do not think it is by accident that the two main charactors of this comic are named after them. They often have philosophical discussions, especally when they are racing in a cart down a steep dangerous slope, and almost always there is something to these discussions. Calvin is an egocentric boy, doing everything except what he should do (like his homework), while Hobbes has a dim view on humankind and is convinced of the superiority of tigers. Calvin has an incredible phantasy and invents a lot of games to play with Hobbes and also alter-ego characters like space-man spiff, jet pilots, dinosaurs or both, like a Tyrannosaurus Rex flying a jet fighter. These stories usualy start in Calvins phantasy world, like spaceman spiff landing on a remote planet in another galaxy being attacked by hideous alien monster who suddenly turns out to be Mrs. Wormwood, his ground school teacher. Calvin and Hobbes are my favorite comics. It is difficult to describe in a review like this, but I find the sudden switches and disconnects between Calvins phantasy world involving aliens dinosaurs etc. and the cold reality involving his parents, teachers and the neighbor girl Susy extremely funny. Bill Watterson uses a very rich vocabulary and especially for non-native english speakers (like myself) there is a lot to learn here.
