Lightweight, easy to understand, and sews great
This is a great sewing machine. Lightweight and easy to travel just 15 lbs, just what I was looking for. This is my 4th Janome machine. My main machine is 30 lbs so this one is a treat to handle. It is a manual so not a lot of fancy stitches and no auto cut off but runs and sounds good right out of the box. Very pleased Diane

Great machine, way better than Brother
Great machine. Easy to figure out, easy to use. I don't regret buying this after using a crappy Brother entry level machine for years. I'll likely never need to buy another one.

Fantastic Garment-sewing machine
If you want to sew garments, this machine can do most anything. It is almost identical to my Baby Lock Zeal, except the Janome Sewist 721 has a 4-stop buttonhole process while the Zeal has a 1-step process (like the Janome Sewist 725S). This is a solid, durable machine with a metal frame, unlike cheap no-name brands. As a non-computerized machine, it is very dependable and should be cheap to maintain & repair, if it ever needs repairs. It's a workhorse that can sew cottons like men's shirting, canvas, denim, jersey, poplin, sheeting, & lawn; has no problem with woolens; and sews linen with aplomb. If I had to pick 1 thing that really distinguishes the Sewist 721 from other lower cost mechanical machines, it's that it has a presser foot pressure dial. This lets you control how much pressure to put on the fabric, squeezing it between the foot & the feed dogs. Lighter, thinner fabrics need less pressure, as do certain sewing processes, like basting & putting on an appliqué. It's also good for knits like jersey. It operates very smoothly with no jams except for my beginner mistakes. One of the best low-cost machines out there. Get the Sewist 725S or BabyLock Zeal if you want a 1-step buttonholer. Otherwise get this machine.

Great machine for beginner
I love this Janome sewing machine. Easy to use, I am a new sewer and have found this machine easy to figure out and if I need help I often find a video to help me. Shoot, it even threads the needle, did not know that till I saw a video...lol!

Really easy to use
This is perfect for beginners. There’s a lot of YouTube tutorials on how to us this machine.

Robust and Easy to Use
I didn't realize how horrible my old sewing machine was until I bought this one. What a great, simple, robust, easy to use sewing machine. It started to sew beautifully right out of the box. I read the simple manual to ensure I was threading the machine and the bobbin properly. I didn't realize how much I "needed" a needle threader until I started using the needle-threader on this machine. So easy!!! Saves countless hours of needle-threading frustration. I had a problem with the thread creating a "birds-nest". Upon further examination, I discovered that on one occasion the top thread was not threaded properly and another time the bobbin was not threaded properly. Again, read the manual to ensure you are threading the machine correctly. I recommend not winding the bobbin spool quite as full as the machine allows. This seems to have helped with bobbin thread "un-threading" itself. I'm not an advanced sewer, but I do look forward to sewing masks for my family, executing small sewing projects, hemming pants, and mending clothes. I love this machine and am so happy I bought it.

Lightweight, easy to use, sews well
Nice machine, light and sews well. I had an expensive machine before and kept forgetting how to set the digital parameters as I don't sew that often. So I sold it and bought this one with 2 dial knobs. Love it, I can sew right away without getting out the book!
