I couldn't put this book down! I absolutely love the writing style of the author and the development of the characters was fantastic! I probably finished this book within two days and immediately had to move on to the next one to continue the storyline. I was pretty much obsessed with these books. I still wish there will be more coming out even if just spin off series. The in-depth world the author created is SO fascinating!! I was genuinely sad when I finished the last book because there was no more to read. I immediately had my best friend start to read the series and my sister as well. They both loved it as well as they don't normally read fantasy novels. I recommend this to everyone whether they like to read fantasy or not because it is just so well written and developed. One of my all-time favorite series hands down! ### ⭐ Book of pet peeves *by I***A on Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2020* This book was ... unique? It’s the kindest word I can think of to describe it and it’s probably the only kind word that I will have for it in this review. Because all that First World managed to do was finding all of my nerves and annoyances and get under all of them. This entire book was all of my pet peeves rolled into one huge pile of peeves.I honestly don’t even know where it went wrong or if it was wrong for me from the start. I mean, I actually kind of liked the beginning with Abby’s strange dreams and strange encounter. The dystopian feel to the world was also interesting and would have been, or rather should have been, the backbone of the book if it had been explained at all. All we got explained was that gangers took over and the world order was gone. That’s a pretty ambiguous description since it does not shine any light what so ever on how that happened. It was just a pill we readers had to swallow and believe without information or reason.At the same time I can kind of see the reason as to why the author didn’t take any time explaining the dystopian world, and sadly it’s not a very good reason. This book simply had way way way too much going on to give it any room for natural progression, explanations or even characterization. I don’t know why, but for some reason the author wanted every known genre and plot twist known to man in this book. There was the end of world/dystopian theme, aliens and different worlds, magic, soulmates/lazy insta love, orphan reunited with parents, combat, selling people to gangers, a “Superman” race, prophesies and strange dreams, quirky (insert annoying here) best friend, brother and bestie insta love, immortality, kidnapping ... I, no joke, could go on for the entire review. As you probably can guess this made the book extremely messy and very unrealistic in everything it had. The plot twists had no chock factor since they were freaking everywhere. Hell, the only thing that chocked me was that that the author stopped there. At this point I was just waiting for “the love interest is your brother/relative” bomb that is infamous in YA these days. In next book maybe.You’d think this was where the book struck my nerves the most, but nope. There was one thing even worse, believe it or not, than the billion themes and twists. That’s where the main characters come in. First thing that annoyed me was how unreasonably perfect and special Abby was made. She was literally out of this world beautiful, with strange dreams, who everyone liked, being half Superman with a destiny as empress and savior. She won every fight and apparently was funny (not). If that’s not a Mary Sue staring me in the face, I don’t know what is. Even the love interest was so unreasonable beautiful that Abby didn’t think he was real. Main characters are supposed to be relatable you know. There is nothing here to relate to. There weren’t even flaws or character development to give the characters some life. Hell, they didn’t even have much emotions or human reactions even in the face of danger to make them remotely realistic or lifelike.Worst of all was the constant banter between Abby and Lucy. I don’t think I ever heard one sentence from either of them that didn’t have a joke or sarcasm bundled in it, making them sound like 12 year olds instead of 17. I suppose the author wanted them to be the comedic relief, but there is no relief in this at all considering how bad and cringy I found their banter. It was way to overdone and in your face and just made them TSTL. Why? Because they in the middle of a threat from gangers decide to not prepare to fight or think their way out of it, but instead had a “who can make the baddest joke” competition. Then when they were locked up and needed to escape they thought it was a good idea to discuss what they dreamed about and then fix their appearances in the bathroom before they escaped. And let’s not forget how little fear they showed. Was it to seem brave? I guess that’s how the author wanted it to seem, but all I saw was that they weren’t smart enough to understand that they should be afraid.I have so much more grievances, but if I keep going here this review will become its own book. If anyone really cares I have made my kindle notes public as well where you will find the rest I did not mention in this review. I do feel that I overall covered my feelings of this book here however. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jaymin Eve's First World is a Guilty Pleasure *by K***E on Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2015* Jaymin Eve's First World is a wonderful guilty pleasure. If you are looking for fantastical worlds, silly banter, female heroines, fun youthful energy, romance and adventure, then this book is perfect.Genre: YA fantasy, coming of age, epic Comment: The tale is a high spirited rollicking beginning to an epic adventure which takes the reader to many unique and wonderful places to meet unique and wonderful characters. "A Walker Saga" series haphazardly throws in elements from near every fairy story and legend. Some may find the banter between characters or the alpha male Walker society a bit painful. Others may enjoy the strong female characters and find the verbal sparring witty. This book resolves its own plot before looking to an overarching one that ties the books together while the rest of the series takes on the cliffhanger mantra. This isn't a romance although there is romance. First world is a good introduction to see if you will enjoy the series. The storyline: Spirited away from a post-apocalyptic New York to First World where Abby and her best friend, Lucy, learn that Abby is half "walker", a being with extraordinary powers who can travel to different worlds in moments. Unfortunately disaster threatens all of the worlds and Abby may be necessary to save them.
