On my door, you couldn't lock the deadbolt unless you pushed on the door while working the deadbolt. I bent the tab to cause the door to close tighter and that solves the problem. **Q: can this be used on just a deadbolt?** A: I saw mixed responses to the question of whether this could help with an off-center deadbolt. I ordered it to try it out but it was not helpful. The larger piece would have required that I cut out more wood than I wanted and still wouldn't have given a larger hole. The smaller piece isn't any wider. It'll will be easirler to fill the screw holes and redrill these to move the plate over so the dead bolt will properly latch. I do not recommend it to solve a deadbolt alignment problem. **Q: Will this help an electronic deadbolt latch better?** A: Actually it will. In most cases the latch is improperly positioned causing friction for the bolt. So you need to lean or pull on the door to the throw the bolt. Adjusting the latches strike can rectify that. **Q: I have a 2 1/4" latch with a 1" opening (vertical). I need about another 1/8" on the bottom edge bc latch is too low or plate is too high. Work?** A: Gator strike plate opening measures approximately 1 1/4” vertically.
