## Description

Stop opening drums just to check what's left. The Groz 48003 Drum Level Indicator threads into the 3/4" bung of a standard 55-gallon drum and gives crews an at-a-glance indicative reading from 0 to 55 gallons, so you know when to schedule the next drum before production stops.A planetary gear mechanism connects the dial to a polyethylene float on a string. As fluid drops, the float drops, and the gauge moves. The float is partially filled with water, and adjusting that water lets the same unit read sensibly across light oils, heavy oils, fuels, coolants, water-based fluids and similar liquids. An air release venturi is built into the threaded body for steady float travel.Because it mounts on the small 3/4" opening, the 2" bung stays free for a drum pump. Suited to oil and fuel drums in automotive shops, fleet bays, manufacturing, agriculture and industrial lube rooms. Note: this is not a precision measuring device; the gauge provides an approximate level only.

I installed it into two barrels to see how it worked, and wasn't very impressed by the accuracy. One barrel a little below half and the other had about 25% left, and it showed both as empty (one was gasoline and one diesel). I left it in the gasoline barrel for a few weeks and went to use that barrel today and the gauge showed "full". I unscrewed the unit from the barrel and found that the float had come apart - there was only the top of it left attached to the string. Without the weight of the float, it had retracted fully, showing the barrel was full. Now there are pieces of a float I'm going to have to get out of my fuel barrel... I was planning to buy more if this worked out, but I definitely won't be buying them now...

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this still allow the drum to vent? And has anyone use this on the B side of closed cell foam(polyol resin)?**
A: Not really which is kinda stupid. We use it for our oil drums and always have issues with venting, eventually we just removed it because it was more trouble then it’s worth.

**Q: is the gauge water tight to be installed in the utside ? I would hate to get condensation and not be able to read it....**
A: No It is not water tight.  Not for outdoor use.

**Q: where is it madE?**
A: Probably china

**Q: do you have a version that will fit on the 2'' port**
A: Check your 2” port cap, some of them have a 3/4” threaded hole in the middle. You’ll have to punch out or cut the hole, but this fit perfectly in mine. Note, I did buy and install a short 3/4” riser to allow the gauge to screw on snuggly onto the 2” cap.

Upon receipt, I was initially worried as it felt very cheap, being all made out of plastic. I installed it into two barrels to see how it worked, and wasn't very impressed by the accuracy. One barrel a little below half and the other had about 25% left, and it showed both as empty (one was gasoline and one diesel). I left it in the gasoline barrel for a few weeks and went to use that barrel today and the gauge showed "full". I unscrewed the unit from the barrel and found that the float had come apart - there was only the top of it left attached to the string. Without the weight of the float, it had retracted fully, showing the barrel was full. Now there are pieces of a float I'm going to have to get out of my fuel barrel... I was planning to buy more if this worked out, but I definitely won't be buying them now...
