I did put an egg shaped "gripper" normally used for pencils on it, as I have terrible arthritis in my thumb, but didn't find the smaller size a hinderance while stitching. The tiny screw can be a challenge (again, arthritis) but the ease of which you change needles is great! Super easy to thread, and I didn't realize it actually came with TWO additional threaders besides the copper colored one in the kit. I'm brand new to needle punching, and just purchased my first kit here on amazon, and the needle was AWFUL! I am so glad I took a youtubers advice and upgraded my needle the very next day. The tips are nicely rounded so not super sharp to the touch, but glide beautifully through the fabric.
