404 Spincast Fishing Reel,

Been using spinning rods and reels my whole life. A friend recently gave me a nice spin casting rod so I needed a reel for it. Not knowing if I would like using a spin casting rig I didn't want to buy an expensive reel, so I chose the Zebco 404. Turned out to be a great choice. Solid, smooth, and fast retrieve ratio for a spin cast reel. Just had to take off the junk line that was on it. But always have to do that with any pre-spooled reel i've bought. For the money you can't beat this reel. I would definately buy or recommend and buy another one of these reels.

Inexpensive yet reliable.

This is a great reel for beginners that makes casting and retrieval super easy which eliminates some of the frustrating aspects of learning to fish. Bought these reels to replace the Zebco reel that comes on the dock demon poles for my 3 and 5 year olds. The reels are a bit larger which adds some weight but both kids were easily able to control the rods with the added weight. The 15lb test that comes on the poles has a large diameter so I immediately respooled the reels with 10lb test line (Zebco Cajun smooth cast). The reel’s push button is easy to depress and the line casts smoothly without catching on any internal pieces of the reel. The retrieve is also smooth and the spin dial drag set works well (not a star drag set next to the crank but a plastic dial set another the push button). The only issue with this reel that I found is the reel housing’s front cover is a little tricky to get to line up and screw closed. However, this is an issue I can live with because on the kids poles I don’t need to change out their line very often.

It arrived supper fast I used it the next day for fishing worked great. Fixing to order another one for my son. Casting work fantastic. Unfortunately didn't catch any fish to try that part out.

I couldn't wait to put it on my rod and cast it out. I did and caught a huge blue catfish. I was so happy. Love it.

I was disappointed in this reel. It is noisy and gears feel loose. It works, but just feels cheap. I finally took it apart to find not one speck of grease on the gears. No wonder it was noisy. I greased it up and will see how it feels now. There usually isn’t a lot of grease on the gears, but a least there is some.

I’ve been using the 404 since childhood and it has never, and I mean never, failed me…. I absolutely will not fish with any other type of reel on the market period…. I’ve had so many folks trying to sell me on different reel brands and I’m adamant about the quality of the 404. In my 60 years on this earth and fishing since I was 4 years old - I can’t even begin to guess how many fish I’ve caught in my lifetime but it’s been a lot and caught some very large fish with this reel as well - Always dependable and cast right where I want it placed, lightweight and durable - Zebco made a trusted solid product when they made the 404 and I won’t fish with anything else period. I’ve tried the 202, 33 and 808 and they just do not do the job that the 404 does…. Those came in combo packs I’ve bought in the past and every one of those is sitting on the shelf now - used the rods and put 404 reels on them and gave to the Grandkids…. Stick with old reliable 404…. Awesome product that has stood the test of time…
