I go to antique stores and look for Japanese Sake /Tea cups on regular, so I was used to the shape and size.jThese are not made in Japan, I think they are made in China, but they are nice and porcelain-like enough to snag my interest, especially since they were much cheaper than ones made in Japan.If I were going to use them regularly for sake or tea, I'd pay more for the Japanese cups. None of the cups were damaged. They came in a small cardboard box, with the cups separated by cardboard dividers. The lack of cushioning seems negligent — but as I said there was no damage whatsoever, so my concerns were not validated. The white cups themselves are very attractive and minimal, with the company's name tastefully adorning the base. The curvature of the cup makes it slightly difficult to drink from compared to a flat-sided cup, but I think the pretty design is worth sacrificing ergonomics slightly.I made a few batches of pu-erh tea to test the cups out. I brew pu-erh at a high temperature (212°F / 100°C), and noticed immediately upon filling the cup that it became very hot and painful to hold. It cooled with the tea, and was fine to hold after about two minutes. I imagine that this will not be much of a problem with other teas that I brew at lower temperatures.Overall, I am satisfied with this product. For a very reasonable price you can get an attractive and adequate set of simple tea cups. Most of my issues are nitpicks — potentially inadequate packaging, potentially annoying ergonomics, and heat retention — so I knocked it down a star.
