Light comes on and is effective at getting rid of little pests. Obviously it works best at night or in a dark situation so that the insects are attracted to the UV light.I still think that, for the price, there could be some higher quality construction, (so moving to 4 instead of 5 stars) but I can say the second one I got is solid. Everything was correctly installed and I have run it day and night without any hitches.I am extremely happy with their service, their support team, and the product. I think it is important that you make sure you check it out before using it and if you do have an issue reach out to their team.(THIS WAS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW)I had to return mine.The bulb came dissasembled from the unit. You are not supposed to be able to change or modify this unit, but seeing as it was just the main uv tube not working, I figured i would open her up and plug it in. The leads in the bulb were not even long enough to make contact to the required points on the bottom of the unit.I was extremely disappointed. I have purchased many items like this on amazon, and while the build may not be fantastic, most the time they work and server their purpose. We have suffered from bugs that sneak in the house at night when the doors open and close, I have wanted a bug zapper for indoors for a while and picked this.The unit is somewhat small, about the size of a 2-liter soda bottle, and plugs into a standard, two-prong outlet. This is definitely not the huge metal bird cage sized zapper you would typically find for outdoors. The outer black frame and screen is plastic and it is lightweight. I confidently hung it from a small screw-hook in the ceiling near a plug. It makes no noise, no buzzing, and no actual zapping that I have noticed. After two nights, I can tell it works! There have been no mosquito issues indoors and upon closer inspection, there are many dead bugs in the unit. It seems easy to clean and included a small plastic brush to clean out the bugs. Definitely recommended!Best wishes-Update - two weeks laterThis unit has solved the indoor bug problem in our cottage! At the end of summer vacation there were hundreds and hundreds of dead bugs in the zapper. All of the dead bugs were contained in the unit, and cleaning it with the included brush was pretty easy, I definitely recommend cleaning it outside or at least over a trash can.
