Ortho Tree and Shrub Insect Control Granules, 3.5-Pound (Not Sold in NY, OR)

My Saliva plants were so infested with mites and aphids that I didn't think they would live -- and there a lots of them. As a last ditch effort I bought this product. While it took about 6 weeks (due to the severe infestation), I did kill all of the insects and the plants look great.PROS:Granules super easy to apply (beats spraying neem oil)You only need a small amount depending on the plant or tree you are treatingEasy screw on cap for future useREALLY WORKS WELL TO GET RID OF THE INSECTS!Cons:A bit pricey, but so worth it.

IT IS NOW MID APRIL THAT YOU CAN USE THIS PRODUCT TO GET RID OF WHITE FLIES LARVA AND OTHER INSECTS DESTRUCTORS. JUST READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BOTTLE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. YOU NEED TO SPRAY THIS ROUND AND BROWN MINI GRANULES AROUND THE SHRUBS, BUT AT 8 INCHES FROM THE TRUNK. THE ROOT SHOULD ABSORB WATER AND CONSEQUENTLY THE PROGRESSIVELY DISSOLVED GRANULES TOO. I MUST SAY ITG IS VERY EFFICIENT. I PUT THE DOSES LAST WEEK ANC EVERYDAY I CHECK THE SHRUB... MOST OF THE FLIES LARVA ARE JUST DEAD ALREADY. I DO NOT SHOUT VICTORY BECAUSE WHITE FLIES ARE A PEST. IT IS SO DIFFICULT TO GET RID OF THEM, BUT AS THE PRODUCT HAS BEEN SPREAD AT THE RIGHT TIME (WHICH IS WHEN THE WHITE FLIES ASRE STILL LARVAE), IT SEEMS TO BE ALREADY A SUCCESS. I AM VERYH HAPPy TO HAVE FOUND THIS PRODUCT. IT WILL LAST FOR A WHILE AS YOU NEED JUST A LITTLE. TREAT 2 TIMES A YEAR just NEEDING REASONABLE QUANTITY MEASURED WITH AN INCLUDED RECIPIENT DOSE. No worries, dosage is easy to manage and precised in the instruction booklet on the 3.5 pound bottle. BE AWARE THAT THIS PRODUCT IS NOT FOF EDIBLE PLANTS. RESPECT THE DOSAGE, TOO MUCH IS NOT NECESSARY SO ONCE AGAIN FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. UNEXPENSIVE AND EFFICIENT.

I can't say how this works exactly, because you can't know what insects would have been on the shrubs if the treatment had not been applied. I can say that it's easy to use and seems to work.

I have read that this product containing dinotefuran is rapidly absorbed by trees in a few days. Another popular DIY Ash Borer treatment, imidacloprid, is much more slowly absorbed (up to 3 months in a large tree). It must be applied early in the spring before most plants flower. For that reason, I believe that if the application is very carefully timed, Ortho Tree and Shrub can be used with less toxic exposure to bees and other valuable pollinators.Follow the directions for application time carefully. In addition, I watch for flowering of my Ash trees. I apply it right AFTER the flowers have dropped. At that time, most other nearby plants are no longer flowering either. It should be most active in the plant when borers are actively feeding.Another option is to hire a professional skilled in TREE INJECTION of pesticide. Unfortunately, in my area many of the professionals just soak the soil around trees with long acting, far reaching pesticides.After I used this on my seriously damaged Ash trees, they came back from an almost certain death. They were beautiful this year.

Although the label lists scales are one of the insect it kills, after three applications they are still flourishing.

This product worked amazingly well when I applied it around the roots of a couple Tree of Heaven trees on my property. The tree trunks were literally covered in Spotted Lanternflies before application of this product. Within 7 days, there were virtually no Lanternflies! They did not appear to have flown off to other trees on the property. Hopefully this will continue to work for these pests.

I've been using this for the past 4 years to treat my 26" dia. Ash tree from Emerald Ash Borer. My tree looks very healthy. I had the kids tent set up in the backyard and saw 4 Emerald Ash Borers on the tent. Thus they are in the area but not attacking my tree. I used to pay a service $135 annually to treat my tree. I believe this product is about $26.00. A huge savings for me.

I gave this product a 4/5 only because it was highly recommended by person at a local Botanical Garden. I didn't realize and I didn't ask that the product didn't go very far. It will be a while to see how effective it will actually be on my camellia's.I will likely reorder to treat the balance of my shrubs because I trust this individuals opinion.
