Beautiful vibrant colored pencils
To refute all the negative reviews I must say these are great for coloring. I don't understand how anyone could be dissatisfied with these or what kind of deliberate force would be necessary to break the lead inside the barrel. One comment said they twisted the lead too far out and then it broke, leaving the assumption the lead couldn't be retracted. In fact, they can be, just twist them back if they're twisted too far out. I find these great to work with. I wish they were available with more colors, but they are very bendable. They are sort of a mix between a colored pencil and a crayon in that they have a very slight crayon-type finish. I like this because it let's you lay down a fine line of color that is not obliterated by a second color. After a little experimentation you will see the benefit. Regular pencils can't achieve this effect. These colors are also bendable if you use light strokes. Again, you can work with them to find out how to achieve numerous effects. It is also possible to create bold, vibrant colors, and there are sufficient colors to achieve beautiful shading. I have recently rediscovered the joy of coloring and find these pencils perfect for that purpose. Others have listed the colors that come in the set. In case there is still doubt, there is a vibrant red. The only color without sufficient range, in my opinion, is blue. There are only 2 shades of blue, but neither are a true blue. Both tend toward the slightest blue-green shade. They are pretty colors, but there is also no light blue. There is a pretty shade of aqua. The size of lead is durable but also small enough to make a fine line. They never need to be sharpened. I have used other brands of colored pencils as well as pastels, but this is definitely my favorite for coloring. I have several Creative Haven coloring books as well as some mandalas. These pencils are perfect for all of them.

Great Colored Pencil Invention -- can't wait for the next step in colored pencils
Crayola 30 Count Twistable Colored Pencils My grandkids and I really like these twistable colored pencils. They never need sharpening, the tips don't break with a little pressure, and the clear barrel lets you see both the color and how much pencil is left. With thirty colors you have a nice selection for most coloring projects. The case they come in has a color dot above the pencil location so you can keep the colors in the same order in which they arrived. This helps with locating a specific color as like-colors are next to each other. I recommend these twistable colored pencils for kids age five to adults. This is a marvelous invention and time saver as you are not constantly looking for the pencil sharpener, wasting the colored pencil with frequent sharpening to keep a fine tip, and dumping the shavings in the trash. I will keep buying these as the pencils are used up.

Great fopr coloring
My mom said these are great for coloring. She does not understand how anyone could be dissatisfied with these or what kind of deliberate force would be necessary to break the lead inside the barrel as a previous reviewer commented. One comment said they twisted the lead too far out and then it broke, leaving the assumption the lead couldn't be retracted. In fact, they can be, just twist them back if they're twisted too far out. My mom is in the nursing home and coloring is great therapy for her. She finds these great to work with. I wish they were available with more colors, but they are very bendable. They are sort of a mix between a colored pencil and a crayon in that they have a very slight crayon-type finish. this helps when the coloring book papers are thin the colors will not bleed thru. I like this because it let's you lay down a fine line of color that is not obliterated by a second color. After a little experimentation you will see the benefit. Regular pencils can't achieve this effect. These colors are also bendable if you use light strokes. Again, you can work with them to find out how to achieve numerous effects. Good for adults and kids.
They're kinda fun. As you grow up you kind of grow out of crayons. They're to thick, the paper is annoying and they never seem to fit the tiny areas of the more grown up pictures. Well, these fix that. The crayon part is thin so it's always sharp like, and colors into the small areas much better. They're plenty sturdy and don't break like paper wrapped crayons, so they're even good for little kids... Well, as long as they aren't twisting them up really far of course. The color is great and even. They're easy to use, mix and shade. Worth the purchases and good for adults and kids.

Great product but has a couple glaring flaws
I work in a call center and got into coloring books to ease my boredom. Sharpening pencils only to have the lead break repeatedly was making me bonkers... until my friend dug through her old craft supplies and brought me a used 12 pack of Crayola Twistables to try. WAY less annoying and could still be layered/blended - I was hooked! I came to Amazon and got this pack with 30 colors. I was already at work when I opened them for the first time and got a VERY rude surprise! Unlike the 12 pack of the exact same brand, these weren't labeled!! I couldn't use them until I figured out a way to not get them mixed up, b/c I'm OCD like that. Thankfully the same friend had label tape - problem #1 solved. Problem #2 was that some colors persistently slid back into the housing no matter what I did. I fixed this by wrapping a piece of scotch tape around where the end (that you twist) meets the body of the pencil. Easy enough to unwrap it as needed to twist more lead out. My third big issue is that neither the color chart on the package nor the colored ends of the pencils accurately portray the pencil's actual color. I solved that by making my own color guide and "laminating" it with clear contact paper. The first two problems didn't exist in the 12 pack, which makes it more irksome that they do occur in this product.

Using these for studying
Long story, short: I am using these to highlight recurring themes, key words, etc. in my Bible and other college textbooks. Crayola Twistables are perfectly suited for this task and they're a superior alternative to highlighters, pens, crayons, or even other colored pencils. Unlike ink pens and highlighters, the Crayola Twistables do not smear or bleed through the pages, and they're available in an erasable variation ( Crayola Twistables Erasable Colored Pencils, Assorted Colors (12-Pack) ). Unlike wax-based crayons these won't ever melt if they're left in my car (or, even worse, melt once they've already been used on a book and essentially seal pages together). And, unlike other types of colored pencils these do not have a fine point, they essentially have the same sized point as a small magic marker which makes it easier to highlight desired text. I cannot recommend these enough for students (be they students of the Bible, college students, etc.). Although they might be a little more expensive than regular highlighters, pens, etc., I believe they are more than worth it.

GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY! If you've not tried twist-up colored pencils, then you've not experienced true coloring joy.
Yes, I am an adult with an adult job and adult life concerns and yes, I purchase coloring books and coloring implements such as crayons, colored pencils, and pastels much more often than i would like to admit, and yes; I wish I had a third 'yes'...and YES I DON'T. But what I do have is a set of the most perfect coloring tools man has been blessed with in a long time - pigments so buttery smooth I thought I was coloring with Marvin Gaye's voice. The twist-up nature of the pencils is revolutionary! You never have to sharpen them! Do you understand? This renders moot the "crayon vs. colored pencils" argument! No longer do you have to sacrifice ease of use for the even layout and precise application of color that pencils provide for the reliable if clunky sticks-of-pure color crayons. The best of both worlds, folks. Buy these. Welcome to the future of coloring.

Fabulous for Adult Coloring Books!
I have recently become a big fan of adult coloring books, and I really love using these twistable colored pencils for them. There are so many colors in this 30 pack that one can shade and outline easily and I also like that I never need to carry a sharpener around with me. The pencils are easy to use and I have not had issues with breakage so far. They also last a good while, even when coloring large areas. Probably not quite as long as a traditional pencil might, but they do not wear out extremely quickly. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase and would recommend these to others.

Not just for kids
Just like using normal coloured pencils that you have to sharpen...but you don't need to sharpen them. FANTASTIC! I use to do delicate colouring in my various books to give me some brain space and they are perfect for that. You can absolutely colour in fine details. Any concern I had over not having the sharp edge of a sharpened pencil was quickly put to rest with these as you can easily use the edges of the nib to colour with. Would recommend to adults and children alike. I would also recommend the Crayola 24 Twistable Crayons for larger images where the detail is not as necessary.
