7th Heaven: Season 5

This show evolves into a show not for children
I bought the first five seasons of 7th Heaven for my kids with the intention of buying all of them. My kids are currently 15 years old. We don't have cable so the only TV they watch is on Netflix or stuff we buy from here. They grew up on Little House (seasons 1-5) and the Waltons which I can talk about on a different review. My kids really like 7th Heaven because it is about kids their age. I wanted it because I knew it was pretty wholesome overall. I don't want my kids exposed to 'adult themes'. Then I went on the internet and read the summaries of seasons 6-the end and decided not to buy them. Evidently, the kids all grow up and become sexually mature and I don't want my kids watching that stuff. The show turns into a soap opera of whose sleeping with who so no way. Also, another thing this show has in common with Little House and the Waltons is that when the kids grow up the show keeps adding new people and pretty soon the new people have taken over all the plot lines and the original actors just fade out (the actors leave the show). That may not be true with 7th Heaven but all the same, this is not appropriate for our family. Also, there are things about 7th Heaven that are not realistic. They only pray before they eat. They never read the Bible or discuss any of that. The dad could be a plumber for how much influence his job has on the show. One thing I do like in these early episodes is that when the kids get in trouble they have consequences which most shows with kids in them haven't for the last 20 years or so. The first seasons are pretty good in many ways. I just don't like the direction the show goes in later on. It is also disheartening to know that Ruthie grows up to be sort of trampy (disheartening pics of her on the internet as did the little girl in Party of 5 who grew up to put porno on the internet.) Being a child actor must do weird things to their minds.

Great Family Series
My husband and I bought the whole series of 11 seasons and have been enjoying them very much. We are currently on season 9. The Camden's have numerous challenges to deal with their children and with life itself which brings back lots of memories in our own life. Good series to watch with the whole family.

7th Heaven's Best Year
Season Five of 7th Heaven was easily the finest in terms of storyline and content. Headlined by eldest daughter Mary's downward spiral...perhaps Jessica Biel's finest acting work that unites and divides the other family members. Mary's spiral dominates the first half of the season, always hanging around in the shadows, but I always thought it lasted longer. The other kids have other issues as Robbie moves in with the Camdens, Simon struggles to find himself within the confines of Middle School, Matt continues his neurotic spiral towards doctor-hood, Lucy makes a life-changing decision during the hundredth episode. Annie decides to go back to school and Ruthie takes on Ms. Riddle the teacher who called her stupid the previous year. This may be the last call for the 7th Heaven that I remember watching growing up before it devolved into the teenage soap opera with revolving characters it would become in later years...see last years on WB and the mess that was its lone season on the CW Network.

it wasn't as good to me
As the kids got older, it wasn't as good to me. Everybody (kids) were making out with each others dates, Annie was getting crabbier, Eric was kissin more azz then usual and not saying what was really on his mind. They had a lot of kids staying in their home trying to help them, while their own keep leaving the nest. I ended up jumping right to the last season, last episode to see how it ended. Kinda unpractical to have THAT many people staying in a motor home, and leaving two houses behind and their belongings. Could of been a better ending what was such a great start to a show.

Bad disc
I purchased Season 5 and am very disappointed. Disc 1 & 6 keep messing up all through each one! Something needs to be done! I paid for season 5 to be able to watch it but I can't...thank you, Mary Barnett

Life Lesson Learned *Beware of Lots of Kissing Drama
I like all of the life challenges that are addressed; and with such a large family, they are able to bring up many perspectives. However, the relationship drama along with all the kissing has been a bit much. We have had our fill of the kissing scenes! But, it has been a lesson that getting involved with someone so fast, even if it is just kissing, causes drama, confusion, and a broken heart.

Subtitles would be helpful
Unfortunately, this DVD package doesn't have subtitles (even in english for hearing impaired or for germans that like to watch a DVD that is not available in Germany, it would be a help to have subtitles).
