Review: Exactly What I Wanted - Belly Band Pediatrician expected us to just wait for the hernia to "fix itself" just like his tongue-tie or torticollis would just "fix itself" within the first few years. Nope! I don't think so. Proactive, observant, sometimes obsessive mommy of three here. Lol! Seriously, I was a bit freaked out about baby's belly button/ hernia looking and sounding (gurgling) like it was about to explode every time he cried or pooped. I felt it was getting worse, which it likely was because there was no resistance or restraint to help keep the belly button within its proper location. Thought of making some type of soft splint, which worked temporarily, but the gauze wrap kept twisting into a rope and rubbing into his soft waistline, and the cottonball wouldn't stay put on the belly button. Anyway, I came across this little inexpensive gem on desertcart, and it was EXACTLY what I had tried to make. This belt is wonderful, simple, safe, inexpensive, and effective. The ONLY con is the velcro/ hook and loop wears out super fast. I found an easy fix: safety pin. Yup, just like a pin used on cloth diapers or your blouse. This belt will work rather quickly if you (1) start using it when baby is young and most likely less mobile (not so much wiggling) because it will stay in place easier; (2) leave it on as often as possible; (3) make sure the belt's little nodule is directly over the belly button; (4) regularly and very gently press baby's hernia/belly button in prior to positioning the belt's little nodule over it; and (5) the safety pin was a game-changer that actually works better than the belt's velcro/ hook and loop. I very seldom removed the belt once the safety pin was secure in place. You want the belt comfortably snug enough to apply a bit of pressure on the belly button, but not so snug that baby can't nurse comfortably or move. You don't want to change the shape of baby's waistline or anything. This isn't meant to be a corset. Lol! However, you do want a soft, gentle splint that stays in place OVER the baby's clothes. Watch to make sure there is no bruising, irritation, or scratching around the waist or where velcro may rub against bouncing little exposed thighs. The more baby properly wears the belt, the quicker and more likely the hernia will be corrected. I think some people recommend buying two belts, and I can definitely see that being beneficial. My little guy had a few back blowouts or wet diapers that required cleaning (just a gentle hand wash with a little baby soap, warm water, then air dry) the belt and missing precious hours of therapy. Final tip: when changing baby, you can easily wiggle the pinned belt above baby's waist so you don't have to unpin and repin for every single diaper change. Then, once done with diaper change, gently press in hernia with your finger, reposition clothes, and wiggle belt right back in place so nodule is directly over pushed in hernia. Baby's belt was never removed unless it was bath time. When worn often and properly, I can see this therapy fixing or at least substantially minimizing any baby's hernia in 2 weeks max. This review is rather long only because of our personal trials and errors over the course of about two months, and I really want to help parents who may be interested in or undecided about this belt.
Review: It does work! - It does work! Someone could say that belts don’t work and I bought a ‘peace of mind’ for myself but the result I saw and keep seeing on my 3 month old baby really made me happy! We had a hernia as big as a plump size, and our doctor said that only time would help and it’d go away max by age 5. I couldn’t wait till 5 and I saw how discomforting it was for my girl so I gave this belt a shot. I give it 5 stars. However, I should mention that the belt doesn’t stay still when you put it on so you’ll have to readjust it frequently enough, and I wish Velcro and the part of the belt with it were wider. Anyway it worth every effort, and your $.

This thing helped my sons Umbilical hernia like you wouldn’t believe. I was so worried about it, that I seriously wanted to try any and everything I could to help. It was so bad that you’d push on it and you could feel the bubbles and air inside the hernia, and once pushed in-it pop out just as fast. He was is such discomfort. and had a hard time pooping. The stupid hospital was putting him in diapers too big for him when born that it cause hi umbilical cord to come off within days of being born, rather than weeks. I was so upset. But I turned that anger into a mission to solve the problem. My pediatrician said these don’t work- blah blah blah, but the results speak for themselves. You don’t want to wrap it too tight because it can cause discomfort and inability to release all the waste the little one needs to. But place it to where it pushes their little hernia in and they’re comfy. The first photo is of his hernia initially. He also had a umbilical granuloma- which they treated with some silver nitrate to help shrink and heal that. The two in the combo I believe helped. My son wore this belt for 2 1/2, almost 3 months. Pictures 2 & 3 were oft sons progress after 3 weeks or so. maybe about a month. The last 2 photos are of him now- he’s 4 months old. He seems fine! The fabric does peel if you wash. Which i totally did. I machine washed and air dried and the velcro ends seem started to curl and the little fuzzy balls were all over the thing, but the actual part that pushed in the hernia wasn’t compromised at all. And Id rather have a clean, disinfected belt my son had to wear constantly, than a icky, fuzz ball free one. I tried to put it under and over the clothes, and under the clothes was what stayed in place and worked best for me. I’m so grateful for this product. Because of it, we avoided surgery completely. I pray if you need this product, your results are just as wonderful. Start using it immediately if possible. i believe the sooner the better if needed so as the little muscles close up, they can do it while this helps them close over the hernia, this eliminating the hernia all together.
