It's no Mice and Men, but it'll do pig.
I was really a fan of James Bond as a child, and now that the years are passing me by, I figured I better get to work on that childhood dream of becoming an international man of mystery... that can legally kill people. As you can imagine, it was hard to find a book on the subject, that is, until now. After having bought this book, and becoming a secret agent (in training), I have to say I am a bit divided on how best to review this book. Having carried it with me all over the world to [1]reference as needed on my daily trial to becoming a master spy (who can kill people), I can honestly say it has not let me down, and thus truly deserves the five stars I gave it. However... on my first true mission to some dive in some country whose name I cannot even pronounce without consuming at least nine cocktails outlined in this book, I found myself beaten half to death by some jealous [2]taxi cab driver, and locked in a room with a cobra. At that point the cocktails were wearing off, and the cobra was looking at me like I was his next [3]meal. I figured no problem, I'll just reference my trusty ol' How to Archer: The Ultimate Guide to Espionage and Style and Women and Also Cocktails Ever Written, and be out of here in time to meet that driver's wife at the laundry mat. Now had I really paid attention when I read the book, that is to say had I paid attention to anything other than the section on mixing cocktails, I might have realized this book lacks a section on how to deal with cobras, and as such I was forced to improvise. Needless to say, my hopes of legally killing people... I mean of becoming a secret agent and thus saving the world, were dashed. I mean seriously, without the ability to outwit a hungry cobra, what would I be? I might as well start chasing after artifacts with a whip, like all the other wanna-bes. So now that I am just a guy, who cannot legally kill people, and thus save the world on a near-daily basis, I have plenty of time to read. Having finally ready most of this book, I can say it is every bit as good as the series. Other than War and Peace, no other book has made me laugh out loud like this one has. Apparently there is a lot more to being an international super spy than just mixing cocktails, and I can guarantee that after you reed this book you will... well, you will probably still not be any closer than you were before you started reading this book, but you will have laughed a lot, and know how to mix a few more drinks... and most certainly will [4]not know what to do if you run into a cobra. [1]Mostly the section on cocktails. [2]It was a elephant I think, I honestly don't recall if I was hitting on his woman, or insulting his elephant. I had been there for three days, tested 90& of the cocktail recipes in this book, and only had a rough understanding of their language at that time. [3]It was a big cobra okay! [4]Other than urinate yourself and miraculously fit through a window your head barely fit through... apparently.

A must buy if you're a fan.
As a fan of the show, when I saw this book, I knew I had to have it. I'm more than happy I did. I find as I read this book, I'm reading it in the voice of Archer (or Jon Benjamin's voice if you want to be a jerk about it). It's spot on with the character & really seems as if Archer wrote it. I found myself actually laughing out loud. Not the laugh out loud like the ones you have when you write "LOL" on a message board, but you're really just sitting there with a blank face, but actually, literally, loudly laughing out loud. He pokes fun at other fictional spies & points out exactly why he is the world's greatest one. If you're a fan of the show, you must know two things about this book. One, it's full of bad language & vulgar acts, just like the show. And two, you must buy this book.

Cobras, Cordwainers, and Also Cocktails
I love ARCHER. I've been a fan of Adam Reed/Matt Thompson's productions since SEALAB 2021 (and SPACE GHOST: COAST 2 COAST, if that counts), and FRISKY DINGO is seriously the funniest TV series I've seen in ages. They've always had to deal with low budgets and brief running times (typically 12 minutes), so they've always had to think outside the box to keep the laughs coming - and when the budget didn't allow for that, they had to rely on their witty dialogue. ARCHER represents these guys finally being able to cut loose, and it's glorious. HOW TO ARCHER is written, in character, by the eponymous super secret agent, Stirling Malory Archer. (In reality, written by show creator, Adam Reed.) This is a less a how-to guide, and more of a self-centered and very sexist testament to the greatness of everything that is Archer. Not quite sure what else you'd expect there. The book is separated into six distinct-ish sections (in the spying, drinking, and women sections, there's a surprising amount of crossover), none of which contains any information on cobras. There's one section on tradecraft with regards to spies and spying (dead drops, bribery, double agents, redoubled agents, triple agents, redoubled triple agents... Basically, things get crazy), another section on cocktail recipes (Molotov and otherwise), another on style (cordwainer, not cobbler), and so on. It is what it is, and it's tremendously funny. This is a great tie-in to the show, with lots and lots of little inside jokes, the same brand of humor, and contempt aplenty for anyone who doesn't get their shoes from Italy and their Mai Tais from Los Angeles. And also a lot of contempt for his publisher, who fought him every step of the way and disallowed a section on cobras to be written. 1984 much? (Or another dystopian novel much?) I think most fans of the show should give this book a try. If I have to be critical, Archer does like to repeat some of his jokes a few too many times. In a book this short, ANY repetition is going to be noticeable, so frequent repetition of some of the jokes is most definitely a little grating. But in the grand scale of things, I don't think it's a huge knock on a book that sports a chapter called "The Archer Sutra." HOW TO ARCHER, as advertised, was written to do one thing, and I think it pulls that off. It doesn't overstay its welcome and it's packed with plenty of humor (and even a little insight) that fans will enjoy. Now we just have to sit back and wait for Archer's eventual memoir, which will very likely be ghostwritten, because God knows he won't be bothered to write it.

If you're an Archer fan; buy it. It's as simple as that. You're Welcome.
This book is an absolute must for any fan of Archer. From the forward from Mallory, to the footnotes (Read the footnotes! They're Hilarious! Maybe my favorite part of the book) this book is non stop comedic genius. The writing is distinctively Archer as it's written in much the same manner he would speak to you (you'll see what I mean, but basically usually the way we write and speak is quite different... Not for Archer!) Any fan of the show will immediately find themselves reading it in Archer's voice with his signature timing and inflections. Whether you're reading about the right way to make a Martini or a Molotov Cocktail. Learning how to pick up chicks, or how to get free comps in a Vegas casino. Or enjoying the chapter devoted to the Tactileneck® (PATENT PENDING!!) this book is non stop laughs. If you read this far, Buy it. You're welcome

Typical Archer...
I'm a huge Archer fan, and when I saw this book I knew I had to buy it. After finishing it within a day, the only thing that disappointed me was that I was done. Reading it with the voice of H. Jon Benjamin in your head, this book is a hilarious sideshow. Archer's jerk attitude and chauvinistic tone shine through every word, and every line... including the footnotes and graphics. Anybody who watches and loves the tv show, won't be disappointed by this book. If you pay attention, and wait another 1000 years for God to gift you the good looks and brains of Sterling, you just might be able to get on his level... or not. I mean, there can only be one "best" at picking up women, and being a world famous spy, and Sterling has both of those covered already. ;)

Fun, but derivative
How to Archer is an enjoyable, fairly funny book written in the Archer tone. That's fine; that's why I bought it and it's why you're looking at it. If you're an Archer fan, it's worth a read, and you won't be able to help but read it in H. Jon Benjamin's Archer voice. That said, it was somewhat disappointing that it felt a little stale and much of the humor seems based more on repeating and reminding you of jokes from the show than creating new humor. When discussing sex, it will comment that a guy will "need rotator cuff surgery from all the high fives he gets," and every other page includes one item "and/or" another, as if to say "Hey, remember how funny this was when it appeared in the TV show? That was great!" It is enjoyable and will make you smile sometimes, but seems like it's trying too hard to reference the show without the same cleverness and nuance in the writing, and focuses on driving that recollection home in lieu of content or expansion of what the show has already given us.

Tip after tip after tip. Phrasing anyone?
So I was trapped on a roof in some god forsaken country where I couldn't even find a decent prostitute. I was pinned down taking fire and I realized I had worn my slightly less black tactical turtleneck and instantly thought "WWSAD?." Well one he would have packed a back up flask cause I was coming back down fast from lack of Johnny Walker Blue. Second I needed a OUT and jumped on Amazon and ordered How to Archer. After having the book airdropped on to the roof I peruse the pages, just hoping these sacks of dicks would run out of ammo! No luck, so I used a little move and turned myself in, and letting mother just pay a ransom. Following archers tip...ha phrasing...I jumped on a plane to what I can only describe as "Whore Island", in reality it was a small island off of Spain, maybe the Canary Islands? Lots of Germans...just saying WWII, these jerks were riddled with Nazis...now just filthy with nude beaches. In short I was drunk when I bought it, drunk when I read it, drunk right now. So do yourself a favor, get two stiff fingers, boom goes the phrasing, and order this bad boy up. Sorry about the missing chapter, you will know and blame that woman at the publishing house, not Archer.

It arrived in good time & in excellent condition. Item as described. Archer fans will enjoy this book written by Sterling Mallory Archer. Not much new material but recaps the show in jokes from Archer's unique perspective.

Fun gift for any Archer fan...
Bought this initially as a secret Santa gift (knowing the whole group were fans of the show). My partner skimmed through it and really didn't want to give it away....so I have just surprised him with his own copy. Why is she telling us all this s***, I hear you cry. Well I'm just trying to say that it's that good....it's worth buying. It's entertaining, funny and gives great insight into the world of espionage! It's written exactly how Archer would speak on the show, he truly comes to life on every page. So turn off the glowing talking box (TV) and give your brain a workout by reading all about the worlds best spy! You may pick up some tips....probably not though.

Hilariously Brilliant—A Must-Read for Archer Fans! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you love Archer, then "How to Archer" is an absolute must-read. Written in the unmistakable voice of Sterling Archer himself, this book is a hilarious and (questionably) informative guide to espionage, style, relationships, and, of course, cocktails. 🔹 Authentic Archer Humor – Every page is packed with the dry wit, sarcasm, and over-the-top confidence that make Archer one of the funniest animated shows ever. You can practically hear H. Jon Benjamin’s voice narrating as you read. 🔹 Surprisingly Useful (Kind of?) – While most of the advice is, well… highly questionable, there are actually some fun cocktail recipes, suit recommendations, and absurd yet oddly compelling survival tips. 🔹 Perfect Gift for Fans – Whether for yourself or another Archer devotee, this book is a great addition to any collection. It’s the kind of thing you’ll want to quote to friends while sipping a dangerously strong drink. 🔹 Easy and Fun Read – The layout is engaging, with illustrations and side notes that make it feel like Archer himself threw this together between missions (or, more likely, between drinks). 💡 Final Verdict: If you enjoy Archer’s humor and want a book that reads like a mix of a spy manual and a drunken rant, this is it. Just don’t take any of the advice too seriously—unless you really want to live the Archer lifestyle. 🥃🍸🔫
