Doheny's 1.5 HP Above Ground Swimming Pool Pump

For those needing a side discharge as the Hayward powerflow Matrix pump. Look no further, there is no switch you have to remove the 4 internal bolts at the rear under the cap and rotate it 90 degree's and reattach. Super easy and saves a ton of money. No power switch but it's super quiet and just as powerful. I've purchased the Hayward before but not at today's prices. I was ready to call it quits for the pool as it's getting very old now but this will get me through till I say no more.

Installation was as easy as removing the old Hayward pump that the motor failed. Everything lined up perfectly and it is up and running in less than an hour. The unit has been running for awhile and unless I am next to it I don’t hear it, unit is very quiet. Pump has plenty of flow, enough to start a swirl in my 24 foot round pool., and the jet is strong enough to give me a good back massage. Very pleased with this purchase.

Purchased to replace my fried Pentair pump last year. At a fraction of the cost it was a no brainer. The only major difference is there is one speed (which is essentially the high setting on my old Pentair) and there is no on/off switch, you have to plug and unplug the unit unless you have it set on a timer. Aside from that it works great. I prefer the larger strainer basket on this unit compared to my old Pentair. If it doesn’t hold up as long then I’ll just buy another and still be under the cost of one name brand unit.

Right now, I cannot recommend this pump at all. Purchased in July, at beginning of September pump failed. It still spins freely, but when I apply power, I hear it buzzing, but it does not run. Appears to be a defective starting circuit. I have contacted the seller through Amazon, and I’m waiting for a reply. I will update my review after I see how they handle this issue.

This is a perfect replacement for a Hayward pump and motor. The fit is exactly the same. This motor is very quiet. The motor is 1.5 HP, yet it has the same exact amps as the 1 HP. Sooo either this is extremely efficient or the ratings aren't right. Also, the pump just doesn't have the same psi under load as the Hayward. When my filter is dirty, the Hayward would get the psi right up to 21psi. This motor and pump will only reach 18 psi when the filter is dirty. When the filter is clean, both will produce 11 psi. Overall, it's a great deal for the price. I would buy it again.

First impression is that this is a very well made pump. You open the well packaged box and can see this pump is not junk. I was shocked as priming this pump was instant; I filled with water, closed the lid, turned the power on and it worked. This replaced a Hayward PowerFlo that really was a pain to get primed. Motor is much quieter than the Hayward too. Lid is easy to open having nice tabs that make twisting easy. Most products these days are pretty much garbage (at least in my experience). This Doheny pump is a quality product. I hope it lasts. Final note, it comes with a standard US 3 prong plug. Check your local electrical code as you may need to replace wieh a locking type plug.

Thing is awesome. Solves so many problems. Pool stayed amazing all summer with zero issues. Combined with a salt water converter you cant miss. If you can find the review I left for the saltwater converter on my reviews here by clicking on reviewer or something, I don't know how those are accessed here, if I think about it I will try to put a link into this review . If you have a 32x16 ft pool, then buddy you found that winning combo because this thing is amazing! Feels great water flows just superb, insulation is easy as can be, and yeah, it really is perfect. If you bought a pool as part of the kit like mine came as for a few thousand for the larger regular 32x16 and then you're going to want to upgrade that pump because they send you a pump that might work in a perfect controlled environment but outside in the elements is not a perfect controlled environment so you need something powerful and this is everything you need.

Works great, seems built more solid and a lot less expensive than name brand pumps
