DVD or blu_ray. **Q: can i play normal dvds or doe it just have to be bluray dvds?** A: You can play both DVDs and bluray on this player with no problem. **Q: Does it have any audio outputs, for example digital audio output, that I can connect directly to my sound system?** A: YES. HDMI output is both video and sound, and HDMI is in fact digital. My digital receiver has HDMI inputs, so I can play digital sound directly, with all of the surround modes supported. This unit does not appear to have TOSLINK or digital coax outputs, and no analog outputs, but these are old standards that are giving way to pure HDMI. The real question you need to ask is: does your RECEIVER have an HDMI input? If it does, you should be all set.
