Rescue - 3 Year 16GB Data Recovery Plan for External Hard Drives

I had to resort to using this service after my 8TB external Seagate drive fell off my desk. My drive was about a week old. There was, at best, 2TB of data on the drive. I unboxed it, plugged it in and moved a bunch of files from other locations to this drive. I never turned on Bitlocker or any other type of drive encryption.The drive fell off my desk and I was unable to see the drive in windows explorer. I sent it in and received a call asking for my password. They said without it they wouldn't be able to recover any data. I explained that the drive was not encrypted. They said they could copy the data to a new drive, as is, but I wouldn't be able to access it with out the password.So now I received my replacement drive that I'm unable to access because it's encrypted.This whole process took weeks, what a total waste of time.I would have felt better if they just told me they couldn't recover anything. The drive I bought stopped working within 10 days of buying it, so I sent it to Rescue to recover data. I received some of the data - not all.Every document was renamed with a set of numbers. There are over 100,000 documents, so it is a full time job to put it into some kind of an order. Many documents appeared in up to ten duplicates. All of my MP3 music was turned into MP4, which really makes no sense. Many documents cannot be opened at all.This is very inexpensive service, but I still expected more.In addition to all of that, the people were very unfriendly on the phone. They seemed to have been unable to understand what I wrote above.

Seriously - you have to get this for each hard drive you buy. I bought a drive and one of these contracts. The drive with over 5 TB of photos and data got knocked off my desk and died. I forgot that I had the service plan and sent it in to get recovered. The cost was over $700. Then I remembered the rescue plan and it was completely covered, including a replacement drive.

I just went through what possibly is the worst experience of my life with this company. Not only did they take a month and half, THEY DID NOT RECOVER HALF THE INFORMATION. Buy a real warranty from a company that actually communicates with you through the process. I've had to constantly call, because email is non-existent, and ask where my drive was and how much longer. Only 2 TB of 8TB was recovered. I was so stupid to believe this was a peace-of-mind expense. Years of data lost because I put my trust in this plan only to be disappointed.

Data could not be recovered so they said they’d send my original product back. When I got the product I planned to use manufacturers warranty. Problem is they didn’t return the whole product but only the insides.

After asking for the order number, they still ask you to fill in info about the product. The hard drive I purchased wasn't on the list. I had to check all 4 tb options and compare them to the product number. Nothing matched

I did all I could to protect and redundantly protect files. I never wanted to use this service that I buy with every purchase of a drive but when it failed and backup failed I was unaware that this insurance is a scam. I was able to file a claim, was given information, sent that information and was told how time sensitive it all is. I did all of that while on the phone to not HOLD ANYTHING UP. Then... I got ghosted. No follow up, emails with shipping labels like I was promised. No idea whom the email is even going to come in from... Super bummer and I wish I never threw away those dollars so many times. I suggest finding business or other insurance to handle this expense if it happens. This service is just a scam unfortunately. Don't do it. You will be heartbroken if you need it.

Hoping to never have to use the warranty. After paying for it, I had to hound them down to send me the warranty.
