GOOGLE says change your hamster bedding once a week, but who wants to sit in their own urine 6 days a week hamster or not. So I change every 2-3 days for her comfort! However, I did an experiment with this new bedding just to truly see how absorbent and odor controlling it was. After 4 days I had to sniff extra hard close up to her cage just to make sure she peed lol... Amazing product as far as absorbency and odor control. However, it is a tad on the not so soft side but it's not hard tho.. So I just mix it with the soft napkin like bedding they also sell and stir it all around so she has both comfort and absorbency. He lived a little over two years, so I wouldn't be concerned. I also heard paper bedding and cedar chips both can cause issues, so Aspen is probably the best choice for hamsters/guinea pigs. **Q: Can this be used for cat litter?** A: We don't recommend this be used for cat litter. **Q: Is this bedding dust free?** A: It is not 100% dust free but pretty low in dust, and will not harm guinea pigs respiratory systems unlike Cedar or Pine.
