The pictures only show the volume controls clearly. Where are the stop, start and skip controls?

Stop/Start: Press Middle Button Skip: Long press volume up Previous track: Long press volume down

Is there a regular audio lead that can be used when the batteries are dead?

No sadly. But you'll likely not need it there's a 12 HOUR BATTERY.

Do they still have a lifetime warranty like the other portapros?

You will NEVER see a quality device with a rechargeable battery that has a lifetime warranty. Unfortunately, battery technology is lagging way behind the advancements in most other areas of our lives. So, right now, rechargeable batteries don't last more than 18 months (giving you the same amount of charge as the first week of use) if the device is charged once a day, every single day.
