Is there any other hardware necessary to use this product?

The one I had received worked fine right out of the box with no additional hardware needed. It came with one wireless controller that has to be charged up first, but otherwise no problems with playing games the first day.

Did you pair it up to this ps3?. To make sure go into settings /controller and add. You will see a list of all controllers and devices paired to that ps3.
