Reliable Mid-Range Fountain Pen with Signature Lamy Quality
The Lamy Studio Fountain Pen in Imperial Blue (Fine Nib) arrived quickly and in perfect condition. As expected from Lamy, the build quality is excellent—sleek, solid, and thoughtfully designed. The pen has a refined weight and balance that make it comfortable for extended writing sessions. The fine nib writes smoothly with consistent ink flow, and the iconic twist on modern form gives it a professional yet slightly artistic character. Among mid-range fountain pens, this model stands out as one of the best—both in performance and aesthetics. It’s a great choice for anyone seeking an upgrade from entry-level pens without jumping into premium pricing. Highly satisfied.

What a gem of a pen
There was some misleading information in some reviews so I thought that I would write one. I purchased my imperial blue Lamy Studio here directly from Amazon, not a third party. At its price point it is easily my favorite modern designed fountain pen. As you can see in the photo it is gorgeous. It comes in a nice giftable box with a blue cartridge. Lamy does not include a converter with pens at this price point. There are reviews that say that the grip is slippery. I found this not to be true. Most fountain pens have a shiny plastic grip. Shiny metal is no different, and after an hour’s writing had no issue with grip. The weight is perfect for me, and it is well balanced with the cap posted. I got the fine nib. I was worried that being a German fine that it would be too fine for my taste. This isn’t the case. Ink flow is great but not too wet. For a stainless nib it writes very smooth. I see myself giving these as gifts in the future. Anyone has to love this pen! Cheers!

Perfect for business use
I was looking for a fountain pen to carry with me to business meetings that wouldn't break the bank (or the heart if it was ever lost). Most of the reviews I read about this sub $50 pen were positive so I dove it to give it a try. Overall impressions are positive and this pen will make a permanent place in my business portfolio. If you are looking for a pen that feels much more expensive than it really is, this is the pen you want. For a more detailed review, see below. I picked this pen up after realizing how much I enjoy my Lamy Safari and I figured, correctly, this pen would be a fantastic step up. The overall length is 5.5 inches and it is about .5 inches wide at it's widest point in the middle of the pen. The ends taper slightly to give this pen a very modern appearance. The cap pops off and on with a subtle click and seems to be plenty sturdy. This pen is constructed primarily out of metal with some of the internal mechanism being made out of quality plastic. The exterior of the pen is coated with a satin coating giving the pen a smooth appearance with just a couple of subtle touches of silver at the bottom and the top. The clip is an elegant twisted teardrop shape that is unique among pens that I have seen and is strong enough to grip a pocket without worrying about it falling out. The pen does come with a standard twist-type converter giving flexibility in ink choices and colors and it holds a decent amount of ink giving me about a week of use before needing to be refilled. The nib on my pen is the Lamy 'F' and it is an extremely smooth writing nib, even on super cheap paper. The actual line width is a bit wider than I expected, but I have not had any issues with ink flow or saturation. Overall performance is on par with many of my much more expensive pens. I got this pen, partially, to match the color of my favorite line of ink - the j. Herbin Anniversary ink. This one is filled with the Blue Ocean color which is a solid blue-black with gold shimmer and the color matches this pen nicely. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this pen as it performs far above its price point. This would make a fantastic gift for someone looking to add a little old school panache to their daily writing.

Awesome fountain pen!
I cannot say enough good things about this fountain pen. What I call a medium barrel sized pen that fits great in the hand, is perfectly balanced and is wonderfully built. It is not a thin pen by any stretch of the imagination, but it is not a thick barrel pen either. For that, look at the Aion. When I first inked this pen and started to write with it, I couldn't believe it. It was so smooth that I thought I was writing in butter. Frankly, it writes better than a couple of other gold nib fountain pens that I have which cost four times as much as this pen. I was floored at the quality of this pen. I own half a dozen other pens from top luxury pen manufacturers in France and Germany and this pen ranks right up among them. Amazing for a pen at this price. Probably going to be my go-to pen for writing every day. In fact, I'm making up excuses just so I can write with it. (I wonder if I should have wrote a letter instead of this online review. But then, you wouldn't be reading this would you?)

Good deal for the price, but the nib was defective.
I was curious why this mid-range quality pen was priced $30 less than from any other seller (excluding eBay). I own a number of Lamy pens throughout their price range and never had any issue with quality or usability right out of the box. I'm fairly sure that it isn't a counterfeit. It's an attractive, well-made pen with no visible imperfections - but the nib had a problem. It randomly failed to deposit ink, mostly on a lower-left to upper-right stroke, and sometimes when crossing a "T" even when holding it as various angles. I'd started with the converter and bottled ink, so I rinsed it and verified it had the same problems with the Lamy-supplied ink cartridge. I replaced the nib with a Lamy Fine and now it writes as expected. Summary: it was priced $30 less than anywhere else, but needed a new $15 nib to work well.

A tip-top everyday fountain pen.
In case you have the same question I had, it does come with a converter. I didn't know that and ended up ordering a second one. This is a beautiful pen. My EF nib is buttery smooth right out of the box, and I think the level of wetness is just right with the included cartridge. I've had it skip about one stroke per two sentences, but I'm giving it time before I hold that against it. Hopefully it won't continue. The weight is just right with the cap posted and it feels very comfortable in my hand (I have long fingers). My only complaint is that the lovely chrome barrel doesn't feel quite secure in my grip. The slightly textured body gives just enough friction to feel secure, but even though my fingers don't slip on the barrel, I frequently feel as though they're about to. I compensate for this by gripping the pen a quarter inch further up than I would otherwise, so I hold some of the body and some of the barrel together. It's still very comfortable and hasn't caused any problems. The cap pops on and off with a very pleasant feel and sound, and it posts securely, although it can be rotated with little force. The clip design is quite clever, as the rounded tip ensures that nothing snags when you clip it to something. (I occasionally have to fight with other pens to slide them into my jacket pocket.) Overall, an excellent every day fountain pen. It looks very handsome, but not overly fancy for every day use. The price and quality make it an excellent choice. It's a great writing experience when you don't need something ultra-premium.

The studio
When I learn to write in elementary school we used fountain pens and once I got the hang of it I really enjoy it. when I learn to write in elementary school we used fountain pens and once I got the hang of it I really enjoy it The practicality of caring around a bottle of ink in order to refill the pen is obvious. I later discovered the fact that they are now making ink refills that you could just slide it in the pan and off you go. It’s been a few years since I was in elementary school and a lot of things have changed to the general Penn market but I still like using a fountain pen when I can. I think a lot of people got turned off because of the ink that you might get on your fingers when you filled it up but when A Fountain pen is tuned to its prime there’s nothing better to write with it just slides across the page. The Lamy pen Company is based in Germany and they make some very good pans. For those just entering into the fountain pen experience you might want to try a safari pen by Lamy. But if you take it up a notch and get this Lamy studio pen you will notice a very smooth writing non-scratchy even on notebook paper pen. The way this pen feels compared to Safari is quite a lot better. This studio can run you anywhere from 79 may be down to $59 but the writing is far more superior. So if you have the extra bucks on hand and want to try a really great writing pen get this Lamy studio fountain pen. Make sure you pick up an ink converter to go inside your pen so you can load it from a standard ink bottle or just buy some Lamy in cartridges .

Great pen, but NO INK or converter comes with it
Great pen, like other Lamy pens. Just purchased 4 for gifts. FYI, the description says it comes with blue ink, however, it DOES NOT COME WITH INK or a converter. Be sure to order LAMY cartridges or a bottle of ink and converter.
