Do i need the smartthings hub or can I just use alexa?

You can use a Alexa Echo *IF* it it has a ZigBee hub built in such as the Echo Plus and Show 2.0... but without a separate, dedicated hub, you will NOT be able to admin the product in SmartThings which means you can't preform a firmware upgrade on the device. For this reason, I choose to purchase a SmartThings hub (you can use any standalone ZigBee hub that the Samsung SmartThings app supports instead) just to preform upgrades when necessary and initially since my Echo can't even connect to the SmartThings device on the old firmware that the device came with.

What is the color temperature of these bulbs?

I take that back, under the details it says that they are 2700k, which tends toward warm white.

Features are great but can you control the lamp at the switch normally? For example, could a houseguest turn on the lamp to read without the app?

I have the hub with smart plugs. The reason is that a guest can easily press the on/off button on the switch to turn the lamp off or on.
