Review: Would give it 5, but (shipped in 3 days, not 2) I need to use is a few more times. Great/Excellent for picking up fine debris! - This solves a problem I've had for years and it does it pretty well. I have an in-ground 26,000 gallon pool. Every year, I clean the cartridge filters before the season and at the end. They are always an ugly off-green color that is a mix of dirt, pollen, dog hair, etc. and I suspect a fair bit of yellow mustard algae that I battle every year, brushing down the sides and shallow end (Yellow Out works, but is temporary). Anyway, that dislodged algae has to go somewhere, and I have until now been brushing it toward the drain once it settles. There are some obvious "dead spots" in the pool where dirt, brushed-algae and debris settle if I don't run the in-floor cleaning system and pool filter pumps for hours (and hour$ and hour$$ and hour$$$). So, despite reading a lot of 1-star "stay-away" reviews, I took a chance and ordered this via Prime at about $2.00 over the next cheapest non-Prime offering. I figure if it fails, Prime has such a great return policy, I'll only be out the hassle. Apparently, Watertech got the message about the difficult-to-use on/off dial and replaced it with a push button. Only time and waterproof housing integrity will tell if they've fixed that problem. Also, while the internal catch net is way too small to be practical for full-on pool cleaning, the included fine-mesh "sock" that works with the catch-net is simply the perfect solution for vacuuming up the fine silt, sentiment and little piles of dead algae. It really works and works well. Only problem is, the sock is as small as the net and the vacuum action pretty much comes to a halt (even as you can feel the vibration of the unit, knowing it is running) as the sock clogs up with debris. That said, although I had to clean the sock several times (a pain, but m'eh, whatareyagonna do?) it really did the job. Each time I went to clean it, it looked like my pool filter cartridge filters, all off green and yucky. That's a good sign. It's a little challenging getting the sock just right on the rubber ring of the catch-net, but once you get the hang of it, it's not that bad. It's super simple to install the net without the sock, but I need the sock on it. Overall, to be honest, it doesn't feel all that rock solid, but it's not simple plastic crap either. They have to keep the price point down for Joe Homeowner to buy this and for me, it's really all I need. I'm sure there are expensive professional-grade versions of this, but why would I want that? Also, I have a good net for major clean ups (say after a wind storm) that this product wouldn't be able to handle, no way, no how. So, that's how I use it for a fairly large swimming pool. This is probably perfect for a wading or relatively small above ground pool. Just expect to pull and clean the net a lot. It really is too small the way it is. Update Oct. 21, 2015: I've been using this since May and it has been flawless. I wish it had a bigger net, but physics gets in the way. I've switched my review from 4 to 5 stars.
Review: A swim spa must-have! - We have a swim spa by Cal Spas. Its construction is like a hot tub but it is larger -- about 8' x 15' and 4' deep. For the first year, we muddled along cleaning it before each use with hand-operated spa wand. Our swim spa is recessed about 3 feet with only the top foot above the deck level, which meant bending over to reach the bottom with the spa wand while pumping away by hand to do the cleaning. Given the size of the swim spa this was time consuming in addition to being awkward. I nearly always got both hands wet in the process. We use our swim spa all year round and actually more frequently in winter than in summer. It was no fun at all to be out laboriously cleaning the spa for 5-10 minutes in near or sub-freezing temperatures while the rest of the family peers through the window from the warm indoors waiting for the job to be done. I began searching for an alternative solution and found the Pool Blaster Catfish. In addition to the Catfish, which does not come with a pole, I bought a "deluxe 3-piece telepole" for $35 (blue, 5'-15' long). The pole installed easily (it isn't practical to remove between uses and so needs to be stored with the pole intact once installed). We have had our Catfish since December 2007 and it is now April 2009. After over a year of regular use, it still looks and works like new! Cleaning the swim spa takes just a couple of minute now and is effortless and more effective compared to the spa wand. No more bending over or wet (frozen) hands. We love this product and completely recommend it to folks with a hot tub, swim spa or other small pool. We live in the Seattle area and store our Catfish on the patio outside all year where it is plugged in between uses. I lean it up in a dry corner of the patio under an overhang protected from rain and snow, but still exposed to outside temperatures. So, this is a testament to its durability. The cleaning head easily twists off to remove and empty the mesh filter bag, which has roughly 1 cup capacity. Our swim spa stays covered when not in use and does not collect large amounts of leaf matter so I haven't tried to suck up big leaves or large quantities of leaves. Given the 1 cup bag capacity and the 1 inch diameter intake tube, it does not seem that it was intended for such use. Our swim spa does collect dirt, hair, grass, bugs, and small leaves (we have an 8 year old and 5 year old who get out, run around the yard, get back in -- tracking dirt, grass, and small leaves with them). All of that settles to the bottom between uses and the catfish has plenty of power to vacuum our pool bottom fast! I even rated the catfish as highly fun and educational because my kids are fascinated by it and like to see what's in the bag (especially if there is a bug involved).

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it pick up sand?**
A: yes...I am getting sand in my pool even though I do not have a sand filter????? That is one of the reasons I bought it!

**Q: will it pick up thick wet leaves and pine needles that were dropped over winter? Pool was not closed properly.**
A: It will pick up some, put not a whole lot at a time You will have to keep dumping quite often. I have a 14ft above ground pool, and it is perfect for that size, I love this vac.

**Q: Do I need to purchase the pole separately?**
A: Yes. We used a 1" PVC conduit length and duct taped along side. The actual handle hole diameter does NOT meet standard USA sizes (it is made in China), and ONLY intex I believe has that pole which will fit inside this vacuum's handle. Otherwise, you will have to Jerry Rig a long pole as we have done last few years.

ONLY problem, is they need to make the attaching head/filter piece better, as repeating the half turn head the plastic fins will break making the vacuum no longer useful, and why we are forced to buy another after 3 years...

**Q: What powers the catfish pool cleaner?**
A: mine only charged by internal rechargable , guess it got wet somewhere along the line. Will not recharge, but going to get another because it works lots better than intex vac

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ DustBuster for your pool.
*by R***J on July 2, 2017*

I was reluctant to buy this based on the bad reviews. At the time of my purchase the product had 20% of the buyers/reviewers rating it one star.. i took a chance as i knew if it didn't meet my expectations, I would pack it up and send it back.. After a week, I'm really happy with this but read on because you may not be.. if this is your only pool vacuum, buy something else. Well first let me clear up some bad information posted in other reviews.. "you need to buy an extra silt bag." You don't, it comes with 2 extra bags including the screen bag. "You need to buy a pole". If you own a pool, you likely own a scimmer pole. It fits on your regular pole "After a few uses it doesn't have good suction" Yeah, any pool cleaner needs constant cleaning. Use it/ clean it I purchased this product for two primary reasons 1) I have a large in ground pool and an expensive robot that randomly zigzags around my pool for 6 hours and misses spots. I also have a regular vacuum that is a chore to take out and setup so getting those few missed spots is a pain.. 2) my pool gets dirty in the same spots.. I get collections of "stuff" in the same corners/areas of my pool. I wanted a way to hit just those areas quickly for quick cleanups without dragging out the robot cleaner. So I was looking around and found this pool blaster catfish vacuum. It seemed to fit the bill for the two problems I was trying to solve. In un boxing the vacuum the first thing I noticed was it's "toy like" appearance. It doesn't give you the impression it's going to hold up/ function well. I followed the instructions and started out of the gate using the fine silt bag. . After charging for about 45 mins it was fully charged and I was anxious to try it so out I go vacuuming the pool at 11:30 at night. As usual I had a collection of dirt along the back seams of the pool and on the deep end and some small spots in the shallow end. I mounted the vacuum on my skimmer pole push the button on the back of the vacuum to turn it on. The sound of the vacuum also doesn't make you feel this is a well built device. After submerging the vacuum the noise quieted and the device was working well .. I started in the shallow end so I can see if device had sufficient suction and not just pushing around dirt. i cleaned up the obvious areas in the shallow end which took about 5 minutes. It worked well on the deep pool steps but when the motor comes out of the water the suction stops, on shallow steps it didnt work at all. So plan on using this in at least 10 inches of water or at an angle to keep it submerged. On to the deep end! In another review, it mentioned it was hard to keep the vacuum on the bottom it wanted to float up and I kinda agree. The areas I wanted to hit, the outline of the deep end basin and closer to the edges, I could easily get to with no issues and it picked up everything . As I reached out to the center of the pool it was harder to keep the vacuum on the floor consistently as the angle of the skimmer pole went more horizontal. It had a tendency to float up. Still it did what I needed it to do.. First time out, it ran for about 25 minutes and performed "ok". I've since used it 3 more times doing spot cleaning about 8-10 minutes and I haven't charged it up yet and each time feeling a little better about the vacuum. I view this device as a "dust-buster" for your pool, great for quick spot cleanups. You wouldn't want to vacuum your whole pool with it, while you could probably do a larger section if needed. Hope this helps in your decision. I'll post some updates after living with this for a while. Update- after two seasons I continue to be impressed with this little vac... So getting ready for Memorial Day pool opening a worked a few days in getting open and blue, I’ve got the yard setup for the weekend and all the pool supplies away and we get a quick rain shower on Saturday night, which drops a bunch of crap, including worms into the pool.. I was able to clean up in 15mins and back to prepping for the party.. i’ve just started season 3 with this little guy and used it 3 times for 15mins each time.. I can’t stress enough, works great a spot cleaner in conjunction with your regular pool vac.. Final update 2019 -after three season it finally died. I buying a replacement 3 years for $90 bucks it’s worth it - One last update 6/2020 - So after great success with the first vac the next 2 units didn’t last a full season.. poor quality control not sure if I would try it again..
