Adequate
I was hoping that this leash would be comparable to this company's slip collar lead (but only with a hook) as I love the lightweight feel of that leash. The leash has a heavier feel to it than that one does. Perhaps there is another one that uses the same rope material as the slip collar one, but this is not it. Putting that concern aside, the leash is fine. It's nothing special but it's not awful. An adequate leash that gets the job done. I'll keep it as a back-up leash or for times that I need a quick leash that I don't care if it gets lost/ruined if I need to run to the vet or groomers.

It's thin and has a small snap to fasten to collars/harnesses
I ordered a few leashes to see which I liked best and ended up returning this one without using it. It's hard to tell by the photo just how thin this leash is. I ordered the 3/8, 6ft size for my 29lb medium size dog based on the weight recommendation. The snap was smaller than the other three leashes I ordered. Just from messing with and checking the quality of the snap that hooks to the collar, I noticed how it would sometimes stick. I also didn't how like how small the snap was for the dogs rabbitgoo harness. It was a soft material leash compared to others I've tried, but in my opinion,it didn't seem that durable if your dog was chewing at it every so often or it got snagged on something. I just didn't like the overall feel of the leash. Again that's my opinion, it might work for you.

Love Mendota products!
I don't recall who recommended Mendota products to me but I'm so very happy that they did.As always the Mendota product never lets me down. The snap leash is thick, very well braided and super long (I got 6ft) it gives my dog a lot of room to browse should she want to but I can easily pull her back if I need to. My other Mendota leash is... 6 years old? Still in perfect shape, I just bought her a harness and needed a different type of leash so I could snap to it or I would still be using the old one.LOVE LOVE LOVE Mendota brand!!

Clip is heavy!
Let me start by saying I like the overall feel of this leash. I have small hands and it does not feel bulky even at all. The only thing I genuinely do not like about this leash is the weight of the clip. It's great if you're only going to be usually a flat collar (which is still kind of debatable) or a harness. It's heavy. I have no doubts it's strong and will last forever, but if using on a live ring or pinch type collar it's definitely not ideal. Keeping it as a back up leash but going to be looking for a different everyday/training leash.

When break-ups are done in haste...
I am revising my review from Sept. 2016 (posted below current review). Previously, I gave the Mendota leash a review of two stars. However, I am jumping to four stars after convincing myself (and the hubby) to give the leash more time. The Mendota leash has always been, ideally, what I look for in dog leashes in terms of grip and comfort level for both dog and handler. Even now, when I think its quality has slightly declined, the leash still serves its function better than other leashes I've seen--especially for its price-range. So yes, it is more slippery than past products. And perhaps the color is a bit too bright for my taste. However, the leash is getting more grip with time and handling (no doubt because of the natural oils from our hands and other things that, perhaps, should not be mentioned) and color is but a vanity in the end.So this is why I believe the Mendota leash deserves 4 stars instead of my previous 2:1) comfort: the leather joint and rounded rope allows for easy grip that flat nylon and chain leashes don't give2) length: 6 ft. is adequate to allow my dogs to roam, but short enough to tighten the slack easily at a moment's notice without needing a hose reel3) durability: these leashes usually last me years, especially now that my Husky has calmed down a lot in adulthood4) price: for the quality, comfort, and practicality of the leash, the price is hard to beatAs for cons:1) slippery: but that goes away2) too bright color: frankly, it's not that important (and maybe people will see us better in the dark)--not many cons that I can think of, in all honesty. So I'm going to stop looking at other leashes and return to loving the Mendota leashes.--------------------------------------------------PREVIOUS REVIEW--------------------------------------------------"Looking for the Mendota leashes of the past--and got disappointed"I have bought three leashes from the Mendota line on Amazon in the past and loved them. So when my Siberian Husky snapped his red snap leash--at the leather joint, and not the rope itself--, I delayed but finally purchased another red Mendota snap leash as a replacement. I ordered the leash directly from the company website as the red color was not available on Amazon (purchase date: Sept. 21, 2016). The new product is a huge disappointment from past experiences.I have always returned to the Mendota leashes in the past for their excellent grip and control. The rope was thick, strong, heavy, and was of a braided cord that gave excellent grip everywhere on the rope--not just where the leather joint is. I could easily grab the leash anywhere along the line when my husky was pulling and maintain control. However, with the new leash and the switch to the polypropylene rope, the leash is slippery, meaning the slightest tug from the dog and the rope is gliding through your hands like water. Yes, I still have hold of the handle and the leather, but I no longer have the ability to shorten the leash at will by just grabbing any portion of the rope when those brazen squirrels dash by. The rope is also much thinner, though I trust the polypropylene will hold in terms of tension strength. Finally, a minor note: the current red color is more of a glossy bright red (because of the plastic quality of the polypropylene, no doubt) than the solid matte red coloring of the past. As a preference, I preferred the stately matte red than this new garish red.I'm greatly disappointed because I had trusted the quality of the Mendota leashes for their easy and sturdy grip. I do not know why the switch to polypropylene was made, but I'm now searching elsewhere for a leash similar the the Mendota of the past. The last satisfactory purchase was the "Mendota Products Dog Snap Leash, Hunter Green, 1/2-Inch x 6-Feet" on May 26, 2015 from Amazon (for a second dog)--and that was excellent quality. I wish I had gotten two... wish I knew what material the last leashes were made of... Wishes, wishes...

5 Year Review - Leash Holds Up
I have a Brittany (35 lbs) who is very energetic and likes to pull on walks when she sees a bird or squirrel. Probably a leash's worst enemy. The 6' x 3/8" was the first leash I got for her when she was a puppy. It still works the exact same as it did the day I bought it. She turns 5 in three months. I've used this leash every single day for those 5 years. Can't recommend it enough.

Mendota has the best leashes out there!!!
I can’t say enough good things about Mendota products. They care about the quality that goes into their leashes and collars. Being a dog/human harmonizer makes it important to have good quality durable tools that work as well as I do! No matter if you get slip leads or snap leads all the leashes are made very well. I had a 110lb Doberman on a 4ft 3/4” slip lead and had zero issues with the lead. They are comfortable for your pet and will not irritate their fur or your skin. My husband and I have 4 dogs and we use only these leashes now. (We are not sponsored by Mendota I just love these leashes!) ☯️💕🐾

Flexible & Strong
I like the flexibility of the leash and the feel when holding on a walk. I like the material, the colors, and leather finishes which give it a professional look. My only complaint is the friction or rubbing on my hand with a puppy who pulls constantly and you are reigning in - there will be a rubbing on the hands. For a normal walk, you will be pleased. I buy the smaller diameter for ease of handling, for a 60lb dog.

Amazing leads, my dog loves them
Love these leads, already have 3 Mendota leads for my dog (rope, clip, and traffic). I needed a clip lead for my job with rescue dogs and these are really the only leads I like, so I bought one just for my job. They’re really comfortable to use, look really nice too. And they’ve lasted really well with my own rescue dog, which is another reason why I bought one for my job. My dog loves his Mendota leads, he’ll be disappointed that the new one isn’t for him. I will definitely buy these leads again once they wear out, which looks like it won’t be anytime soon as my dog’s leads are still in really good condition even though we’ve had and used them for a long while.

Disappointed
I felt this was expensive for the quality. I had read a review saying these are one of the best leads on the market but it appears no better than others half the price.
