It gets 2 stars because it appeared to be a decent quality. I purchased mine certified refurbished by Chauvet. Not only did Chauvet get this unit wrong once, it was still non fuctional after being refurbished. Upon plugging in the unit the fixture button indicators would begin flashing alternately and the blackout indicator would flash. Lights connected to the console were getting no signal from the DMX controller. In the process of attempting to troubleshoot I discovered all of the sliders were non functional, the screen and programming buttons appeared functional but without the speed and fade sliders working it was useless. This review is more of a jab at the manufacturer than a product review. I'm sure a functional unit is great, and as stated earlier the build quality looks good. Update: The seller (hifisoundconnection) called me and offered an exchange instead of a refund. I took the exchange and received my replacement today. The new unit works as it should. I had an OBEY 6 controller but wanted the 70 for my cheap chinease moving heads I added to my DJ system. The OBEY 6 is designed for PAR cans and isn't a wise choice for moving heads. This OBEY 70 controls the moving heads perfectly. I was able to assign the joystick easy enough, the manual is somewhat vague and hard to follow but I figured it out. Controlling the moving heads via joystick is great, far better than using a slider. I'm going to retire the OBEY 6 and use this for my PARs and other lights. I haven't played with scenes and chases yet but look forward to tinking with those settings. Still trying to figure out how to get out of one mode and into the other without the lights "freezing". ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works very well! *by S***S on May 14, 2014* Manual is poor, but there's good functionality here. 30 banks, each with up to 8 sets of programs. Six chase scenes, which I wish there were a few more, honestly, but it's okay. Each program can program up to 12 sets of fixtures. Couple of nit picks, but relative to the price, this is a fantastic controller. 1) The joystick is a nice feature, if you are using something with movable heads, but it sits at position 15 and 16, so depending on your lights settings, some things you wish you could control with a slider may have to be controlled via the joystick. I understand you can remap things, but I still wish it didn't sit right there. 2) Between page A and B, there are 32 "sliders" (really 4 less since some of them are controlled via joystick). I'm using among others a Chauvet ColorBand PIX, which has 12 RGBA lights. In 18 channel mode, I can control the lights in pairs of 2. It supports 36 channel mode, to control lights individually, but the Obey controller only has 32 positions, so I can't use that mode, I can't control the last light at all, or the blue for the second to last light. Again, weigh the price of the controller, it's still fantastic for the price. 3) There's a big disconnect between timer/fader as sliders, and as pre-programmed scene settings. You can save timer/faders into a scene, but then if you bump the fader, it overrides it, until you hit program again. 4) When activating a chase, it doesn't deactivate a previous chase. So if you are running chase 1, and hit chase 2, it will cycle through chase 1, then 2, then back to one. We often forget this, and forget to deactivate the older chase. 5) Every issue above is minor. My one major gripe is changing from scene to scene across banks. If you are on bank 1, scene 1, you can go to bank 1, scene 2 no problem. Or bank 2, scene 2, etc. If you go from bank 1 scene 1 to bank 2 scene 1, it will not realize what you've done, and blackout the lights, just like if you were on bank 1, scene 1 and hit scene 1 again. Annoying, and when you do it in the middle of a church service, horrifying. :) 6) I sure wish fader operated in manual mode. It works great in running through a bank in auto mode, or running a chase, but it'd be nice to be in manual mode and go from 1 scene to another and have it fade. There are some pretty harsh transitions because of that. All in all, we're a month old church plant, and this is my first time running lights. For the price (under $100) I'm thrilled.
