Q: Sometimes when using this water starts running out of the top. Is this normal??

Make sure you seal it right and that the rubber seal is in there correctly. That usually helps or the cleaning media is clogged and backing up

Q: Filter grts clogged too quickly.. can anyone recommend a "pre-filter material to prevent this? I was thinking something along the lines of a scrub pad

You can try using poly fill in the filtering chamber with a magic eraser piece under it. It’ll pull the material and polish the water

I don’t see why not. As long as the tank is fairly deep. Downtown work real well on smaller tanks. But I have a couple 10 gallons and works well on them. I don’t have sand tho I would think that that would be ok. Unless it wouldn’t be heavy enough and suck it all in. That I do not know. I say buy it. If it doesn’t work you can always return it

I have no problems with the product except for the fact that I think something might be caught in the motor (slower water extraction). If you are getting an ozone smell you should contact the company.
