They work great and allow me to train well beyond my hand strength. I have used them for pull downs, but never chin ups. I would imagine they would work fine as long as the bar is low enough to get them wrapped properly. If you have to jump up to the bar you won't be able to get them on unless you used a stool or chair. **Q: What is the velcro tab at the end of the strap for? I would just expect to wrap it around the bar, except it's a scratchy piece of velro.** A: The velcro tab is to secure the strap to the wrist portion of the strap between sets.
