NIV Audio Bible Voice Only CD Audio CD – Audiobook, February 1, 2002

After over 20 years listening to another narrator for the NIV (1984), I really needed a change, and I really love the superb job Charles Taylor does in narrating (this, the same version). He uses a reasonable amount of expression, which I have found appropriate for reading the Scriptures--I do not agree with those who would encourage a "dead pan" expression any more than those who would use a melodramatic presentation. After all, discernment and gentleness are godly qualities--and "the public reading of Scripture" was an important task that Paul charged Timothy with, so it is a job worthy of being done with excellence--just as Charles Taylor has. In every portion I've sampled, it's been highly tasteful and devoid of any ostentatious displays. It is also nice that each chapter is prefaced with the name of the book, and not just the chapter number--in my experience, this really helps when distractions come along and the change from one book to another is missed. Also, the book introductions seem to be very well done, as well, with a contrasting female voice, so it is evident what parts are the actual text of the Bible and what parts are editorial helps. Nevertheless, I must warn that there are variations and flexibility with ISBN numbers and marketing / packaging, as I have also discovered with other products on other occasions. Although mine has matching ISBN nos (0310920485 / 9780310920489), while the picture above is one I've seen in stores with a carrying case--and indeed, some customers here mention in their reviews the nice carrying case they received-- mine definitely did NOT come with a carrying case, nor does it use this picture with a person listening, just the white-on-blue contrasts and lettering, all included in one box set holding 8-section folders (with 8 CDs per section), instead. I maintain this limits its usefulness for travel and use in the car, but since it's not listed in the specs, I say if you really need the carrying case, you'd better ask the seller if the edition they are offering comes with one.

Like most people, our lives are busy going here and there. This audio Bible is easy to listen to, not boring, and a great way to "read" the Bible while doing chores, etc.My husband and I prefer the audio VOICE ONLY version. The Bible can be difficult enough to fully understand without adding another person's perspective on how the word or meaning should be emphasized. We don't need music or animation to hold our attention.We would recommend this easy to use, easy to listen to, NIV audio VOICE ONLY version of the Bible to anyone wanting to go through and "read" the Bible and truly does not have time to sit and read. (Although we also read our Bible) Perhaps one could read along with their NIV Bible while listening to the CDs if that works better for them.I would imagine this would be a welcome gift to anyone interested in knowing what the Bible says and definitely for anyone having difficulties reading.The packaging is great, too. The lay out of the CDs make it very easy to use and go from one CD to the next. We use plastic CD holders to transport the Books we want to listen to.Hope this helps in making your decision. I have enjoyed listening to the NIV Bible on CD. I wish whole books could be on one CD so I could listen to a whole book without switching to the next CD, but I understand why it has to be that way. It's a great way to get God's Word into my mind while I'm folding clothes, sewing or doing any quiet work. I highly recommend it to anyone with children. As they flit in and out with their playing the Word is being reinforced in their lives.

I purchased this set to fill in some of my commute time; one hour each way. I am amazed how fast my hour goes! The explanation at the beginning of each book is excellent! The reading of the bible is not overly exaggerated or dramatized but has sufficient emphasis for my liking. I've listened to both Old Testament and New Testament books and look forward to more! Easy to use. Comes in a zip case. I believe there are 64 discs. I'm real happy with this set and will use it for bible studies as well as commute time.

We looked so forward to re diving this NIV Bible collection set. It was suppose to contained 64 CDs. We re ieved a box which was really bad shape and also a complete set was missing. I tried to send an email to report it and the emails that we was given are invalid. Now we can’t hear the whole series. I would not recommend anyone to buy this. Please beware.

Listening to the Bible, the way it was received by congregants for centuries, allows for a different interaction with the text that can bring it to life in new ways.The oral tradition, of reading the text, still predominates in Arab/Muslim lands. So it's interesting to apply this to the Bible. Both the Old and New Testaments, and each individual book, are preceded by a short introduction that provides context.The voice of the reader is excellent--great articulation, voice quality that is even, not annoying in any way. Very professional production. Discs are in a compact carrying case that provides for easy storage.

I bought this as a gift and am so pleased with it that I will buy one for myself. The reader's voice is pleasant, and he reads with the tone of a storyteller, making you want to hear what comes next. The introduction to each book helps to know what to expect, without opinions or conflicting teaching. Being able to move from chapter to chapter by changing tracks is also very convenient in case you want to repeat something or clarify what you heard. Excellent just for listening as you drive as well.

This aided a dramatic change in my life. I use to hate and struggle with reading but using this brilliantly narrated bible not only have I enjoyed reading the whole bible for the first time but I also now enjoy reading and struggle far less even without the audio and with other books. Excellent if you want to listen to a Audio Bible. I picked this one because I had already listened to samples of the CD's on the Web and liked the accent, not to American.
