Triplett Pocket CAT LAN Tester for RJ45, CAT 5/6, and Coax Cables with Instant Pass/Fail Results (CTX200)

Had these testers at work and they work great. THis one is no different. Its not as fancy as some, but you pay the price for those. This is a durable tester that gets the job done for a good price. The carry bag is a little thin, but works.

As a systems and network administrator I use this tool quite a bit. It works exactly as intended and I couldn't be happier with it. The detachable loopback is a life saver and allows me to test from the wall jack in one room to the patch panel in the main distribution frame. The travel case keeps the patch cable and clips all in one place with the tester itself. I was also surprised with the battery life, it's very good. Extraordinarily easy to use and even identifies crossed or split pairs. A must have in any networking tool bag.

Used this to check my cables after I installed connectors for my whole house network. It's simple but does the job. It great for identifying issues at the connectors. If your problem isn't at the connector this isn't going to help other than tell what pair has a problem. Overall it does what I expected.

This little guy does everything. Tells you what you messed up. Tone works great when put on all pairs. Battery lasts. Wish they were still 40 bucks. Don't drop it off the side of a 6 story structure though. That's how my last one met its end...

I need this only for RJ-45 / Cat5/6 testing and tracing, so I can't speak to the coax testing capabilities. The unit works as advertized and helped me quickly find the end of the proper cable in a rats-nest demarc room two floors below our new offices. What would have made the process even quicker is if I would have had the tone-tracing tool that works with this unit. Yup, unbeknownst to me when I purchased this, you can put the main unit into a "tone" mode and select which pair gets the tone put on it, then use a sniffer-type tool (not included) to find the wire in the walls or even at the other end. I'm going to look for that tool now. The unit seems pretty well-built and is ruggedized. It's easy to use and produces immediate test results.

Feel apart after 1 year with very minimal use

Complicated to use. I tried it on long runs and short runs has so much static you can barely make out the tone.
