Not worth the price, please read review.
I used to believe Gobe is a high quality VNDs and I totally understand that manufacturing optics at a lower price isn't easy. But PLEASE watch Gerald Undone's YouTube video reviewing various VND filters, Gobe is one of those. If budget is a constraint or you don't care about all the side-effects, get the cheapest you can find on amazon, but if quality is your concern, Gobe is a waste of money. Why you ask? Only about 30% of the min to max range is usable, anything above that, you're seriously compromising on color, vignetting and details. I do not recommend this product if you're looking for a 'mid-quality' VNDs as Gobe isn't that, what it is, is a low quality VND priced higher, probably for their promise to plant 5 trees.

Perfect the second time
I've been wanting to try Gobe filters for quite some time because of their campaign to plant trees with a purchase. My first order came in and I was a little disappointed that there were spots in between the glass layers on the coating. I returned it and got a replacement that was perfect. So, perhaps it was a fluke.Overall, it's a great filter. I did knock down the score a little because, even though it comes in a nice box and tin, it seems to be a one-size-fits-all tin and the smaller filter rattles around inside. I'll probably invest in a filter wallet at some point, but for now, it's a minor concern that it's banging around in the tin inside my camera case.Image quality is fantastic and does exactly what I need.Just be sure you aren't trying to put one on a really wide angle lens...and this is due to optical science, not the construction of the filter. For reference, I tried it on a Rokinon 12mm f2.0 on my BMPCC 4K and it can only utilize about 1/2 the range before starting to get vignetting and the X pattern is extremely prominent at max setting.Otherwise, on other lenses I have, the X is only visible when you go beyond max. It would be nice to have a hard stop at maximum and minimum, but not a deal breaker.I have bought a second filter from Gobe and I plan on buying more when the time comes.

No "X" Effect For A73 Full Frame
I had to find a better variable nd filter since upgrading to my first full frame camera, the A73. The old cheap filters would create the annoying "X" effect because it wasn't optimized for full frame. After testing out this ND filter, on 4K full frame mode with my 28-70mm sony lens, there was absolutely no X effect and the picture quality was sharp and had absolutely no color shifts!! Great ND filter here for the price.

Review of Packaging
I only just received the product and haven't had much time to use it. I wanted to make note of the packaging. I've had other Gobe filters with tin casings that have form-fitted foam to keep the filter safe, secure and clean. The one I was just sent has cheap foam and a disposable bag that's meant to keep the filter secure, clean and safe. Packaging which will inevitably do none of these if it will be carried around loosley in this tin, and if everytime I use it, I'm made to unbag it. These things will neither keep it clean nor safe. Mind you, as I said, other purchases have not been like this. My guess is someone returned theirs without the foam and this is what they gave me instead. I'll be damned if this filter breaks due to Gobe's inability to ensure a properly padded casing.

Fantastic filter for Nikon Tamron 18-400mm Lens
I bought this filter to use with my Tamron 18-400mm Lens for my Nikon D5600 DSLR camera and I am extremely satisfied with it. No distortion, or blurring when using the max zoom, and I get a crystal clear image! The description of the filter does caution about the use of this with Telephoto Lens, but when I tested the filter on my Tamron 18-400mm Lens at least in quick tests, it is working amazingly!I love the aluminum case it comes in, and the cleaning cloth is a good cloth that comes with it. Plus for every filter you buy 5 trees are planted. I am definitely getting more filters from Gobe.

Does not work with standard lens hood
Title says it all. Using a canon 24-105mm f4 L. If I’m shooting on a sunny day I need a filter and a hood. The filter is too big to put the hood on after the filter is screwed in, and there isn’t enough space for my fingers to put the filter on after the hood is on.The glass looks nice, and without the hood it performs well, but that’s meaningless given the fact that I can’t actually use it.

Grainy. Destroys clarity and detail.
Nope. Ruined all of my photos from a recent trip. Slashed the clarity of images, probably in half. The filter does what it should, reduces light and made the sky very easy to shoot, but don’t be fooled. I thought I had found the answer to all my blown out skies. The images looked amazing on the camera screen. I couldn’t wait to get home to edit them, but everything was fried. It’s like my images were transferred back and forth via email 20 times. I went to some truly iconic places and I’m embarrassed to show people the pictures.

Why spend the extra money?
Excellent product. some have complained about the "X" mark, it has only occurred at the 17-70 Pentax lens beyond the MAX setting. Vignetting does occur at the max settting at 17 mm-28. you can force the X to appear, at all focal lengths, but again it is beyond the MAX setting. This filer is a convenient way to be able to reduce light by several stops and achieve the look of movement/motion blur in your photographs. It came packaged in a "tin" with a lens cleaning cloth. If true, the fact that they help plant 5 trees for every purchase is an added benefit.

Good for getting into long exposures
Was not sure whether to buy separate filters or go for this variable one. Went for the variable as I am only getting into for long exposure work. The variable nature of the filter is allowing me to experiment with differing levels of intensity. As the documentation says, if you use the extreme settings with wide or tele lens you will getting the dreaded X affect. But with moderate settings this is manageable. Have not not noticed any appreciable colour shift which is common with lower cost ND filters.I will use this for training purposes but may well end up buying and ND6 or 10.I think its well worth buying this filter as long as you appreciate its limitations (which will be the same with any variable filter).

Gobe's ND filters are a must have for camera users
Great product not only are you buying something to use for your camera but you're also helping the environment by planting trees, great for indoor or outdoor pictures or videos, gives you that cinematic look without post-process and when you do put it into your editing software you can really achieve an amazing look.

Quality for price is excellent
Brought this to try out as I've never used any ND Filters before. The variable feature is amazing as I don't need to buy 6 different filters and the quality for a hobbyist like myself is spot on for the price.
