Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket

One of Gundam's best!
This entry is excellent, while there may not be a lot of mech battles, the story and characters make up for it. For only six episodes, it tells a cohesive story with memorable characters! The quality here is excellent as always and the price isn't too bad for what's can be seen as a 2 hour movie!

UC is Best
I've watched almost all the Gundam series and OVAs and the Universal Century is still my favorite. There's some strange nostalgia maybe from the OG Gundam, but also there's a certain style to the UC that feels more like "war" than some of the newer Gundam shows (00 for example is super slick/clean animation). There's also a certain nostalgia for Zakus and other Zeon forces--in some of the new series Gundams fight Gundams--so you don't get that cool Zaku/DOM style mobile suit.

War in the pocket
Amazing series, great Blu-ray. Months later the ending song is stuck in my head along with memories of this great series. I had already seen wing decades ago and was rewatching them all in order (currently on X, highly recommended as well). If you don’t have time to watch a full Gundam series and even if you do, this is the can’t miss Gundam.

Get your heart ripped out subbed OR dubbed!
English and Japanese audio. English subtitles. A heart wrenching tale of innocence lost in a time of war. Arguably MSG's strongest anti-war piece. Absolutely worth a watch. Not a lot of buy-in necessary to make it your first Gundam show if you are new to the franchise. The Earth Federation is at war with one of its colonies, giant robots are used in warfare, the colony this takes place on is a neutral colony in the conflict. The war is called the one year war and takes place during the "universal century." All characters are new for the series.

A classic finally on bluray.
So happy this was released. It was sort of the last hole for me in the UC Gundam universe that I didn't own on a bluray of. Arguably, 0080 is one of the best Gundam stories even though it's just a short little series, about people who aren't all that important and yet, that makes the story even more meaningful. War in the Pocket was also the first of it's kind as a Gundam side story, followed later by 0083: Stardust Memory and 8th MS Team. It was a big deal in America. For many of us, the VHS versions of 0080 and 0083 were our introduction to the series as well as the 0079 movies. All in all it's a must watch for Gundam fans and really this could pull at the heart strings of just about anyone. 0080, A Happy New Year! (you'll get that if you watch it and you will probably cry)

A slight twist on the usual Gundam story
Most anyone looking at this will already know what 0080 is I feel like. But it's a pretty good series as long as you aren't going to it for sheer action. Watch a war operation from the eyes of a young boy who loves war, but has to learn about the horrors of his favorite fantasy.I always felt like they went a bit too whimsical and light hearted at times, and feel they could've taken the concept a bit further. Most of the concept of the series, that I like, doesn't quite come as far into the forefront until the very end. Before that it's just kind of a boy having fun and chasing after his fantasy (war and mobile suits).

I love this series.
I actually never saw this series till I bought it. But after watching it I loved it. It really does not have a deep plot like the other Gundam Series like Stardust of Memory, or Gundam Wing. But it does tell a really honest and sincere story about being caught up in the conflict between the EFSF and the Zeon. It is not not a long series but it was long enough for me to stretch out for a week watching a few episodes during the week. And it is affordable unlike the other Gundam Series on Bluray.

The best Gundam has to offer
After watching most of the Gundam series (UC and others), this is still the best example of the anti-war message that so many claim Gundam to have. Short, and to the point, it doesn't drag its heels on what it wants to say, and does it succinctly. Feels the least like a Gunpla commercial and seems more geared towards critiquing those that only see Gundam in the shallowest sense. Not for everyone, sad to say, but for those that like it, it'll stay with you for a while. This was the first of many Gundam OVAs, and certainly one of the best. One of the high points of Gundam for me, yet to be toppled. Highly recommend a watch to see if you like it.
