As soon as we got this, we just happen to already have avocados so we immediately tried this. There really is no set up but we did use just a rectangular container that we use to store food in to hold the water. We actually placed the seed inside the container with the bottom portion of the seed on the planter itself. We then filled the container up with water and just placed it near a window that gets a good amount of sunlight. We do have to keep putting in new water as it does evaporate and can get a little dirty. After about a week, we noticed the bottom of the seed was starting to crack open and you could clear see the roots starting to poke out. It's now been about 2 weeks and we not only have some roots but you can see the top of the seed has opened and the top part of what will be the tree is almost completely out. The kids love seeing their seed float on what they call the "Seed Boat" and love tracking it's growth. Great for family fun and a good learning experience for the little ones.

I wasn’t sure it was going to be successful it took awhile to get started but it did work. I just keep bottom in water. It’s fun and I think a kid could definitely tend this and get a result.

Had seeds germinated for 3 weeks and they seem to be growing well with this. Will update with a new seed

This is so clever. I've tried growing an avocado tree from a pit in the past using the toothpick method, but I live in a very dry climate so water evaporation happened fast and my pit never seemed to sprout. This little contraption keeps the pit half submerged at all times and just sits on the water like a little boat so evaporation is less of an issue. My kids are really excited to grow their tree and check on the pit constantly haha. It's sturdily made and cute. Just a really clever idea. I love when products solve a problem and this one does! It would be nice if it came with instructions but really, a quick google search gives you all the info you'd need. Great buy!!

I have been trying to grow an avocado tree for a while and finally got this to help. So far my avocado seed has split and the roots are starting to come down towards the water. I am very excited! It looks really Cool too. I only wish I could fit more than one seed in it so I can test out a few at a time. I’m looking forward to seeing it continue to grow.

The box went to the wrong apartment but neighbor gave it to us. I originally got it for myself but gave it to a friend who has more window light then me. So far nothing yet but she is hoping to see roots soon. But it does float and the avocado seed sits nicely. She is happy with it
