Exactly what I wanted
I've had this for about a year now, so I feel confident that my review is accurate.I'm happy with the rack. It's nice and sturdy and does everything I want it to do. I'm not a huge guy, though, so I'm not putting a ton of weight on it. 250 pounds max, but I have no doubt it could handle more. It wobbles ever so slightly when I do pull ups, but nothing to worry about. I don't know what more you could expect for the price. It's a good rack at a good price for the average person.Installation was super easy. I moved and had to take it apart and put it back together, which was also very easy. Get all the bolts nice and tight and you're good to go. I have no doubt that this thing will last me for many more years to come.

Good rack
IMO this is a very good rack for home use. But it is an inexpensive rack, and is therefore not at the same level as commercial-gym equipment. I am not a heavy lifter, but a cyclist who wanted a safe way to squat and bench at home. I have been a gym member for many years, and so I am used to and familiar with the commercial level equipment. So my attention is drawn to the weak areas of this rack, but keep in mind that I am really quite satisfied with it and am confident it will meet all my needs.1. Shipping was incredibly fast! It was like the Fedex driver loaded it up in New York on the morning I ordered it and drive directly non-stop across country to Utah. Arrived a couple days ahead of original schedule. That said, the packaging was very minimal, in a flimsy box with just thin plastic wrap over the steel components. So many rubbed/bumped and there were numerous dings and paint chips. These did not bother me too much, because nothing was broken and I don't care too much for cosmetics, but some people do; and I was surprised they would package this so lightly. I guess it is a risk that the manufacturer takes. From their website, I get the impression that New York Barbells are old-school iron-heads with little concern for trivial things like "paint scratches" :)2. All the parts were there and there were exactly enough bolts and washers. There is no "instruction", but there are a parts list and diagram, and it is very simple. In fact, I deliberately assembled mine "backwards" from the way the manufacturer pictures it because my garage has a storage shelf overhang and I wanted the short uprights in the back. Everything is symmetric, so it works perfectly that way.3. The steel of the upright tubes measures about .084" thick and the paint is pretty thin. So this would put the steel thickness at about .080, which is heavier than 14 Gage but lighter than 13 Gage. Since the rack is made in China it is probably a Metric standard thickness of 2mm ( .079") . All the bolts are 12mm, which is slightly smaller than 1/2"4. Assembly is quick and easy, except that you probably want to leave everything finger tight and make sure the base is level by shimming and the make sure the uprights are vertical as you tighten everything. If you really torque things up tight, the tubes will start to deflect, so I got some full 2" diameter steel shoulder washers to put under the bolt heads wherever there is not a supporting flange. This allows me to torque them very solid without causing tube deflection. The attachment flanges are very thick, so you don't need any extra washers when bolting through a flange.5. I still have one upright that refuses to sit perfectly vertical, but it is not a big deal to functionality.6. The paint on the safety bars and J-hooks rubs off very easily and it seems almost pointless to have them painted. A light chrome or black oxide would have made more sense. But maybe that would increase costs. The height-index numbers have numerous smudges and flaws in the micro-thin paint, but are basically readable and accurate. In use, the rack feels very safe, stable, and solid to me. Certainly good enough for all my needs or the foreseeable future. Stability is enhanced by putting a few heavy plates on the plate holders in the rear. Eventually I bolted mine to my garage floor, using concrete anchors, but that isn't really necessary.5 stars for VALUE; but 4 Stars overall, due to minor imperfections. If you compare to other popular home racks, you will probably see that this is among the very east expensive, yet it is not "flimsy" and feels solid and safe.

Sturdy for sure, but the paint on the spotter pin/J Hooks, come on man...
I know, i should have been prepared by reading the reviews and I thought I was. But I thought that maybe the paint chips was going to be a gradual thing. The very first time I slid the safety bars/pins into the holes it grabbed it as it went and screeched as I slid it in, chunking off the paint. Every time I take the safety bars/pins I wince because it is the farthest thing from smooth you can imagine. What a silly thing to go cheap on, and what a simple thing to fix. Seems weird to cut costs on something like this that gets used often? I'm going to have to explore other options because the scratching/screeching is just too much for how often I need to take the pins out and put then back in.It's too bad because this would probably be a 5/5 if it weren't for the coating on the pin/j hooks. In addition, the pull up bar got dinged during shipment so it's got a few chunks out of it, pretty disappointing.

Well designed, some quality problems
Relatively easy to assemble for one tall person. If you're shorter than ~6'1, it'll be challenging. The paint scrapes and dings very easily. Within a week the thing looks several years old. This wouldn't be too much of an issue, but it rubs off on my very nice bar. Some cheap grip tape on the j-hooks fixed that. Welds look fine. The J hook screws also bite into the paint really badly. It's not super noticeable, but it's irritating. The design is awesome - being able to overhead press freely is great. Pull up bar not quite tall enough for me, but serviceable enough. At the moment it's held down exclusively by my plates, which is fine, but it has no ability to bolt down to a platform or a floor, so if you're using a plate holder, you'll probably want sandbags.

Perfect Rack for Tall Guys
This rack is AWESOME for the money, ease of assembly and for doing what it's meant to do...keeping you safe while working out solo. I researched a bunch of different 'closed' racks but none of them, that fit my budget, were tall enough for me to do barbell presses INSIDE the cage (I am 6'3). But, this open rack is perfect. It allows for safe squats and bench press but also shoulder presses. As for the assembly, it took less than a hour and it's rock solid. I'm able to do pull ups without needing to add weights to hold it down, but just to be safe I am going to keep a couple of plates down there anyway. Overall this is a great piece of equipment and an amazing price!

Nice Rack.
I have been looking for a power rack for some time. I didn't really want to spends hundreds if not thousands on one. This does the job perfect. I wasn't sure how i would like the open style of this but now i like it better than the traditional cage style. It is easy for me to move the bar to front if i want it, i can overhead press, bench squat etc. The only draw back i see is I don't think i could deadlift inside of it. The frames on the side i think keep the weights from touching the ground. In either case i just move the bar outside of it and deadlift there. It goes together very easily with real nuts, bolts, washers and lock washers. And sturdy once together.
