The Italian Gentleman (Compact ed) /anglais

I lived in Italy for 18 months. It was eye-opening eye candy for those who crave style and design. I'm inspired by this book.

Remarkably researched look at the history of Italian men's style. The photography is first class. This is a look at the artistic Italian style of men's clothing, the materials used to produce it and the people who put it together. Suits, coats, shoes, shirts, ties, accessories...its all here. I guarantee you'll find many things in the book that you'd run out and buy, if you had the money. There isn't anything in the book I could afford but I'm getting ideas of how to put the Italian look together for myself in a much less expensive manner. Very glad I bought the book and I recommend it to any man who takes style seriously. All that being said, the book would be more aptly titled, "A History of Italian Men's Fashion". I would have preferred more photos of finished suits, jackets, shirts, etc on models, with accompanying descriptions , (you know....fashion), than extreme closeups of wool, wool, wool, the history of wool, the history of sheep, etc. Anyway, great book.

The portraits of clothing, models, and tailors provide a wonderful look into the world of Italian fashion. The book has multiple sections on fabric mills, bespoke tailors, brands, shirtmakers, shoes, and more. It’s a hefty hardcover book (over a foot in length as well as height, and more than an inch thick) with plenty of detail to keep a reader interested for a number of afternoons. I bought it due to my emerging interest in men’s fashion, and it provides a great introduction to the sartorial world—particularly in regards to the Italian style. Makes a great coffee table book or gift for an emerging “gentleman.”

This was better than I expected, and covers prominent and less known master fabric merchants/tailors/shirtmakers/shoemakers/umbrella makers/etc. of Italy in detail. Real Italian clothing is not about the trendy fashion houses and their designers , but these maestro's in various crafts. The photographs shows the clothing/shoes/etc. very well, and in large format, and the text is well written. This was quite an undertaking to research all of these people, and Hugo Jacomet pulled it off very well. I expect that a 2nd Italian version will come out again as there are still so many fine craftmen who have not been introduced.

The book is very nice, although it focuses very much on branding, there is very little left to illustrate more Italian artisanship and the history of how it evolved through the many years,

Great book, much more pages, information, and photos than I expected.

Not exactly what I was expecting, but a great coffee table book. I wish that it would’ve included more and other designers, but it’s still great.

Well written fashion wide and knowledgeable for the man who's really interested in the finest things for a man's life.

Good to know the history of bespoke tailoring in Italy

Got all the information you need to be that cool guy you now aspire to be. It does list all the *top* sources for all the stuff you need, and they come at the premium premium price, but very comprehensive.

I bought this lovely book for a very stylish gentleman who loves it. Beautiful quality, wonderful photos and fascinating reading. Highly recommeded for anyone interested in the history of Italian fashion. My next purchase will be The Parisian Gentleman!
